Ata su bicicleta frente a un peep-show y se cruza al Club Soda. Adentro, sobre el escenario, un dj pone discos. Fuma pitillos, se mueve sutilmente concentrado en los surcos. Le gusta, a todos le gusta; en qué cosa sofisticada han terminado los riff de guitarra, el muchacho con una remera que dice rude boy toca a Blur y otras cosas inglesas; y en esto se parece a The Streets, hip-hop a lo Damon Albarn, a lo Madness. La gente salta, se mueve. Antes, cuando existían los discos de vinilo, la gente iba a ver guitarristas. Antes se grababan discos, ahora se tocan. Estaría bueno saber de quién se trata este pibe ahí arriba del escenario. Pasan unos días y Malhumor se entera. Se trata de Dj Bliss y un periodista dice que estuvo entre lo mejor de la semana. Contento, Dj Malhumor se ilustra y descubre algunas cosas sobre esa música que hace The Streets. Este hip-hop refinado y ahora blanco se llama garage, por un club en Nueva York donde empezó todo, o 2 step, en su segunda generación (claro), "qué difícil", se dice Malhumor, aprender tantos nombres y no solo, porque ahora un nombre dice dos cosas; Malhumor viene de la época que garage quería decir grupos como Thirteen floor elevators, quería decir década del sesenta y quería decir, por extensión, grupos como los Ramones. Ahora quiere decir música quebrada, bases electrónicas venidas de quién sabe dónde y las voces de divas del soul perdidas como otro instrumento. Y está Mike Spinner que cuenta sus historias. Ya se fue Dj Bliss y ahora viene lo mejor, el pibe nos dejó a todos electrizados. Pero algo extraño pasa, porque cuando se apagan las luces del Club Soda (qué bueno que las bandas o quien sea toquen en clubes, una pista mediana, un escenario, una barra larga larga) la música que queda, la música que alguien eligió para ese momento es un piano más bien mersa, más bien sinfónico, más bien feo y más bien poco irónico. Qué raro, se dice Malhumor, poco irónico de alguien que sacó un disco llamado Original Pirate Material. Aparece el pibe con su acento tan inglés, tan balbuceado, y al rato aparece un MC invitado, tan negro, tan cantante, tan canciones haciendo falsetes (como David Lebon). Está bien que este garage le deba al soul, pero Malhumor esperaba menos canciones y más piratería y es más, esperaba la rabia del pirata, la rabia del ladrón (que tiene cien años de perdón). Mike Spinner, con el pelo ultra corto estilo chico de la calle, lo carga al negro, hace muecas, y el otro se hace el cantante, hace gestos, hace mímica y se toca el bulto (solapadamente). Esa es la ironía en escena, más bien poca; las chicas gritan y el negro se las quiere garchar a todas; Mike Spinner/The Streets le quiere dar un piquito y se hace el malo inglés, se hace el malhumorado Gallaguer, le recuerda "nosotros los ingleses inventamos a los putos". Malhumor esperaba otra cosa y la lucha de los dos cantantes le recuerda Titanes en el Ring (que también lo entretenía mucho). Pero todavía queda lo mejor y Malhumor regresa en bicicleta a través de un verano que desconoce. |
