Actually I played SS1 a couple years after SS2 (which is awesome !) but heck 2.5D on DOS on such a level with the game integration (blogs/vlogs/minigames) ; maybe I'm talking out of my ass but I think this game broke a lot of barriers.

nope, it was just one of those old games that came out when CD-ROMs just came out and everyone was making games like Myst where you walked around in first-person and all of the scenes/interactions were videos..
I've actually got the game, but it'll only run on Windows 95-98 or MacOS 7..

2.5D is stuff like the new Street Fighter; 2D gameplay but with 3D Graphics..
Sonic Rivals is a good example of 2.5D

What I really would love someone to do.. It wouldn't require fancy graphics (you couldn't, really, what with the idea's source and scope...)
Take a simple game engien and combine it to get the level details (building locations/skins) from Google Earth.. If you hadn't seen it recently, cities that have had the buildings scanned in 3D also got textured a while back.. So, I'm thinking, make a simple graphic engien; nothing too fancy, just like PS1-style graphics, since that's what the environment is gonna look like if you're fetching data off the Google Earth servers.. Add in some simple zombie-physics like in Dead Rising... And then turn it into a free zombie-killing MMO, the catch being that it's in REAL CITIES! Real city maps, real building textures, etc.. the thing would just have to determine where there's, say, rubble blocking roads, forcing you to go around..

Wow, I'd never heard of that!
Something like that, but in third-person Resident Evil 4/Silent Hill 5/Dead Space style of behind-the-guy camera..
