you wouldnt have this program if its wasnt from that guy's preaching against the corporate anal world.
heck it wouldnt run on mac osx (freeed up bsd sources from the banished at&t system 4 sources) and linux wouldnt have this exposure if it wasnt from him. it would just be called skunkware and you wouldnt care about it Update » cutterhead wrote on Mon Dec 29, 2008 @ 3:47pm on top withou gcc the project would have required to buy an SDK at 20,000$ apiecee.
so yea, if your to preach one religion, your ought to be a follower yourself.

Well, no. That's not true at all. Stallman preaches the GPL. There's the whole BSD side of open source too. The same BSD that built Microsoft's TCP protocols and OS X.
BSD and GPL are not compatible with each other, at all. (You can't put GPL code in a BSD project, it's illegal) There is no doubt that Stallman is a great person, and that the GPL is a great contribution to the evolution of computers. But not everything is GPL. Anyway, relax dude. Not trying to start a flame war here. Use Renoise or don't. I use it. I'm a fan. And this thread is to announce it.

i know gpl and bsd licences are two different things, but bsd souces took an other turn with stallman, projects like olive bsd, openbsd, netbsd emerged since they arent proprietary like
old stuff like citrix. btw microsoft ripped the bsd coded to make its own unix , its in the halloween documents, and i doupt that was legit since they havent keep the coder's headers. i was trying to provide you with the proper ethical point of view on the matter, no flame wars. have i call you names or the likes no , im not here to deface you either, i just want good code as i work my ass of everyday to provide some, and it gets me on my nerves when something opensourced being used to eat an other opensourced program that doesnt profit on complete version (thoses ppl work for free to see their project destroyed my mass appealed) then taht same project doesnt care as much. you see what i mean ? Update » cutterhead wrote on Mon Dec 29, 2008 @ 4:12pm problem being still , i did a red checkmark on their software engineer team / publicity deparment if they reach 3 checkmark i then start to boycut & bannish for improper project administration not because of a personnal beef, but because they failed their promised to their user pool. ie , before xm was supported in renoise they went ahead of their development team and claimed stuff they couldnt do : else it would be supported right ? not a "we can but not now" statement , witch the latter wasnt even made. Update » cutterhead wrote on Mon Dec 29, 2008 @ 4:16pm as i remember its still bad ethics to claim something "you can do" while having no hard proofs ?
xm support isnt that excellent, adapted filters and all ... yea i love them. till next time.

Impulse Tracker, Fast Tracker, Scream Tracker... Those were all shareware. Not open source. Just like Renoise.
50 Euro is much cheaper than Logic Studio at 500 US dollars. People who registered in 2001 still get updates. That's 8 years of free upgrades. If you don't want to pay, use the free demo. Renoise adds XRNS to the mix, which is an open format. All previous formats were NOT open. They were closed binary formats that people reverse engineered. If you pay, you pay for the product as is, not some mythical future product. Finally, Renoise isn't the only choice. If you don't like it, support another project. If another project dies, that's life. I don't use my Commodore PET, Vic 20, C64, or Amiga anymore. I don't use Beta or VHS tapes anymore. Do I care? No. So yes, I see what you mean, but i am not outraged. Most users don't care about a perfect XM import. Those that do, don't use Renoise. In the converse, why doesn't Skale Tracker add support for the XRNS format? Why doesn't Milky Tracker add support for the XRNS format? Why doesn't Logic Studio add support for the XRNS format? Why doesn't Cubase add support for the XRNS format? Anyway, this is my last post in this thread as you keep coming back with some last word every time. Renoise is cool, I use it. A lot of others use it. People are making new music with it all the time. It's only getting better. People not stuck in the past should check it out. [ www.renoise.com ]

[ www.renoise.com ] gawd whats with your attitude, haha i point a problem and i get flamed oh i get it now, this isnt a forum thread, its a "i should shut up and if im not happy leave" wow , i hope one day you will have to cope with compagny dismissing backwards compatibility in order for you to reequip all to new gear, when machine supports it. that day when you will be left with an old computer/software lacking support and getting silenced when you want to team up to improve matter think of me laughing REALLY hard. YEA WE GOT IT ITS 50 EUROS , you keep posting that constantly and i dont try to silence you, even if you sould like an infopub. you just dont want people to talk. BAD Update » cutterhead wrote on Mon Dec 29, 2008 @ 4:41pm relax, its not like its going to prevent you from having publicity incomes , since you just posted the sale pitch over and over.

haha, how many software box you get free per release for that branding ? Update » cutterhead wrote on Mon Dec 29, 2008 @ 5:02pm dismissing the fact that millions of other tracker users would turn to their code if the file support was available is pure idiocity, that represents millions in lost to the renoise project.
knowing their opensouce code could benifit to true FREE opensource projects, and totally void the renoise project , they know after all its better that it stays unsupported till the need arise. ie : another project claiming they can : THATS SLOPPY PROJECT MANAGEMENT

1) renoise is awesome and worth the price
2) nothing is stopping anyone from making a better open-source tracker, and when someone does, people will use it 3) Linux using programmer-musicians seem happy with PD and supercollider
