cool.

Do you know of any other trackers, whatever music prod software (like Fruity Loops preferably), available for Linux (Ubuntu) ?

hively trackers thats precoded in AROS, (the amiga os for intel machines) is pretty nice (works linux too).

not as good as skale tracker ( run in wine ) or renoise.

but my beef with renoise right now, is they promised .s3m & .it & .fst tracker format support,
in the previous version you could see thoses files with thoses types in the browser, now they
release the latest with the most "ASS WAY POSSBIBLE" resolution of the problem. they made files
invisible in the browser, how cheeze dodging of a fix is that !

meanwhile SKALE tracker plays them all and has VST & ASIO support.

ill preach renoise completely the day they wont dodge their promised workflow schedule

skale is completely free, and their isnt a choped function version for capitalistic means

Skale isn't actively being developed anymore.

Renoise imports XM and MIDI.

Renoise's XRNS is an XML based format, anyone could write their own converter quite trivially. No one has stepped up though, probably because it's not worth the time (or they like to post in forums instead of code). In my opinion it's a few days away from 2009, time to move on, time to make new tracks, not import old ones. Check out [ xrns-php.sourceforge.net ] for an example of people writing scripts to work with Renoise.

But yeah, nothing wrong with choice. If you like Skale instead of Renoise then more power to you.

My opinion is that Renoise is the best, the free demo does everything you need, and 50€ is one night of drinking. It's worth it just to show some props to the developers who keep churning it out while other projects continue to die.

Good times.

oh yea, i was as devoted to them as yu are, but the badest move you can make in software development,
is promising something an they silently dismissing the main problem on the doorstep.

skale is getting phased out due to renoise being a better alternative (to some point , i mentioned)
but the fact they took user out of the skale community promising them the same alternative + better
and then just showing them pretty pictures but the support they expected is plain deceiving.

i have a dozen other tracker i use in the hopes of getting the most file support out, and in the
worsed case take the sources myself or analyse the working and provide support. but they said they
yould had it (upcoming release note on site). so i , trying to code an adapted bsd label reader for my windows system since the one available out there can only read one , is taking lot of my time. and was happy they were doing it. now im adding more to my schedule because they decided not to do it.

not like they owed it to me before, but they raised the need by glazing their website with it, now
they took the glaze out, and we cant expect anything.

what the fuck are you saying about pirated stuff ?? does yours ? you want to compare transaction history ?
Update » cutterhead wrote on Mon Dec 29, 2008 @ 2:43pm
i have the tested 3 versions, enought to turn around and use the rest since they cant keep an agreement

thanks for the plugin site , its good to know where to provide this , since their forums seemed a little far from actual development.

Well, this sounds good to me. I only use Renoise these days but it's smart to keep your options open.

There's no preview on this message board. I deleted that part of my post because I was still editing. It was a joke. I don't have any pirated music stuff on my computer myself these days. But it was more a comment about people who use Cubase or Logic or Fruity Loops or a shitload of VST plug-ins and don't pay. Just because you aren't paying doesn't mean that it's free. I feel 50€ is fair and since the XNRS (i.e. human readable XML) format is Open Source this means that if anything goes wrong people can write their own tracker using that format if need be.

If you are a developer there are discussion here: [ www.renoise.com ]

Because the Renoise XRNS format is open source, people do cool stuff with it. C#, ActionScript, Ruby, Python, C, PHP. Whatever language you want. One of those cool things could be an IT importer. Maybe you could write it?

Good times!

i dont run cubase, i wish i did since i use reaktor, or have it plugin directly in renoise as an instrument, dont get me wrong i worship these projects like they were the 13th & 14th wonders of the world. they offer state of the art hands on features, almost no eye candy but the candy itself.

i got very frustrated when i couldnt run half of my mod collection (all other file types .s3m .it .fst .ft2 etc...) and seeing an other opensource with the supported features.

i felt it was very sloppy and reminded me of the way some employers i had dealth with the issue :
dissmissing without notice. and shure they revised so much on the last release it was probably
the least of their concern. but when that happen. you write down a notice, something, provided
a little warmth to the project.

jumping on your links now , thanks
Update » cutterhead wrote on Mon Dec 29, 2008 @ 3:08pm
since renoise $$ they should have gone with the support of the opensource one too, since they took that share of the market. like if someone buys microsoft , and take the mouse off !

Basic tool is not that hard to write, yet some effects may be pretty hard to port, as renoise 2 has totally different structure of song playback.

If you are willing to pay me/gather enough money, I could write this tool. I need to analyze the work involved to give estimate pricing.

Hello syflom,

I started Renoise, I opened a .xm file, I saved as .xrns, I opened .xrns file but Renoise 2 doesn't show & doesn't play the effects correctly :-(

QUOTE

Hello, I would like know if renoise is able to save / export any RNS production to another format like .MOD, .IT, or other?
I have to disappoint you, but we dont try to mimic other trackers. renoise will only save its own fileformat - that would be xrns. Mod, it and xm are supported import formats though. The import features are still not perfect - and they wont be, since we dont emulate other trackers, but try to adapt the effects to match renoise specific ones.

Forget about old format support, import the stuff that you want using the current setup, you can in some cases toggle the slide/glide options in the song properties to behave like XM, but that is pretty much it.

The rest is up to the musician to correct or update.

Either that or start from scratch or edit in Fasttracker using a dos-emulator like DosBox.

Enough options to reach what you desire except the option "let Renoise fix everything for me while I sit on my fat lazy ass and do nothing" wink.gif

here we go calling names, normally thats a defensive behaviour , but no threath was made , so this is guilt.

christ THEY PROMISED IT IN THE FEATURE PAGE, NEXT TIME ILL SCREEN SHOT !
so next time they doubitiously resolves issues as such ill rub it their face like they
rubbed it on millions of CRT out there before taking it out...

That's one way of looking at it.

The other way of looking at it is that it's a minumum of 80 hours of work at a freelance salary of $50 an hour for a total of $4000. It's also a tool that Suva (a linux programmer by trade) will not use himself because no one really cares about XM import, so why waste 80 hours of his life?

I mean you have a job, right? Is your salary zero dollars?

But yeah, if you want to write the tool for free, please go ahead! Save us from corruption. :)

You are entitled to your opinion.

Mine is 'technology evolves, people pay rent with money until further notice, people do stuff because they want to, not because other people want them to'

Open source means code it yourself. If you really need this then you should try coding it.

actually that a very bad definition of opensouce and is totally wrong if you know who RICHARD STALLMAN IS :

opensouce is open for COMMUNITY IMPROVEMENT , and provide a solution for the impossible proprietary systems improvements
