I just installed Vista for the first time and seriously I think it's way better then XP. Everything is 100x faster. I dunno what all the fuss is about that it sucks. I can't see myself going back to XP anymore.

Nope, it's quite good from what I can tell... The new TCP/IP stacks make it worth it alone... Also all programs are fully UTF8 compatible. I also find IE 3x faster then Firefox on this machine. I'm not sure why.

I'm not sure why. Vista has memory. If you use firefox often enuf, Vista makes a note of it, and Firefox will run faster than IE I think vista in general speeds up the more you use it...it adapts to optimize the speed based on the programs you use most

I'm pretty sure it's Windows Server 2008 cause I was thinking of upgrading the [ rave.ca ] server from Windows Server 2003 to 2008...
As for the notifications, it's an extra click and I'm quite sure you can turn some of those off...

I've got 64 bit Vista with 4gb ram for 2 weeks now and I cant complain. It is indeed very fast. Once you've set it up and have disabled a lot of the notifications there's absolutely no problem.
I like! | |

Had vista for a year on my laptop. Everything would always crash, boot time was several minutes. Recently formatted and installed xp. boot time is about 15 seconds now. Everything is lighting speed...

I dunno I'm using the 64bit ultimate edition also and nothing crashed on me yet... I have drivers for all my stuff (I don't use ancient things people should be without)... The only thing I can sayis XP kind of looked nicer. I like the blue... Vista is more sharp though... I only have 2gigs of RAM also. I should put in the other 2gigs which are sitting in the computer on the floor but see no reason for it right now.

If you are running the 64 bit Vista you should definitely put in the extra 2 gigs, it's pretty much the only reason to run 4gb on a home pc.

I tried Vista out a few times, and I ran into huge problems trying to connect securely to our wireless network at the time. The access to administrative functions is severely limited and it's dumbed down as hell. I dunno, it kind of looks pretty though.
I want to install some sort of Windows partition on the external drive for my Mac and I'm wondering how to go about it now that I've made partitions. I have a certain amount of left over free space and I hope I can use it still as an extra partition. Warnings about how this might go would be appreciated, before I embark on a fool's errand of updating and installing things.

Windows Xp Service Pack 3 Version 2008 is what you should get if you dont like vista but like the appearance.

Vista is an improvement over XP from a computing point of view, so long as your machine is fast. But there are built-in DRM and "content protection" caveats that are worth noting, which affect media production and other things people take for granted about copying information on a computer, in a somewhat sinister way:

i dunno...
as much as xp is a piece of shit, i don't think i'd bother installing vista on my p.c. i don't get the impression that it's gunna stick around very long. and i only use my p.c. for storage and torrents. leopard simply rips vista a new asshole.
