i just want to know something from some one who can abjudicate properly on the situation (and by that i mean a nerd)

i have a 1.7 mggz celeron processor, i had one gig of ram when i first bought my comp now i have 2 gigs,

my question is will i frag my processor?

ram takes whats given, it doesn't draw resources per se. If there were a problem w/ either stick, you'd have a happy little error on bootup. As for XP having a max, i don't know.

XP can't handle more than 3 gigs of ram. Vista I'm not 100% sure on, but I know that it can take at least 4 gigs.

I'm not sure if the problem is that it can't handle more or it can't address more. It's actually a limitation of 32-bit processor design that you can't address more than 3 or 4 gigs at a time.

There is no harm in putting 3 gigs in your computer, if it is a laptop it might marginally use more power...
