dude

i personally dont care, but for the paranoid ones it has to be said that encryption wouldnt change shit

you realize that if u encrypt messages they will have to enter a crypt key at some point.. and server records those and u technically could decrypt their shit, tracking the crypt keys :)

hehe but anyway peeps i tell you all really shouldnt worry cuz like im sure noah has plenty better shit to do than sift thru peoplens notes

and if your so paranoid why would u store yer notes on the internet anyway?

unless u send em thru a secure SSH tunnel, your internet provider can READ ALL U SEND AND RECEIVE ANYWAY...if they want

hotmail has a police that takes away all yer rights to yer emails... did u know that?

and anyway most of u prolly have no firewall even

so anyone who knows enough could reall ALL YOUR SHIT

chances are nobody ever does... it isnt as "cool" as it used to be and peeps realize its a damn waste of time

unless u have a stalker

or a jealous ex

there isn't a point in having a diary if it's private. A public diary would be cool though, people would just have to watch out what they post. A lot of sites like slashdot and kuro5hin have public diaries for users and it's pretty cool. It might be a good way to keep some crap off the discussion boards.

you should have the choice of privacy like you can have a password or something and you choose who you want to read it or not...

privacy from others, sure

privacy from web site owner where u post is IMPOSSIBLE technically cuz all your passwords/cypher keys/everything goes thru the server... so basically its about trust... and i trust noah

it would be really easy to get past passwords on diaries.

no it wouldn't.
All do you is use a cypher key to encrypted the diary and the cypher key would be the pasword for the diary.
so only the person with the password could read the diary

the way i see it, this is simple:

the diary can be either private, or public

and public means it will be linkable from persons profile and private means it wouldnt be. point finale

one day maybe people can have a list of users that can read their diary but its a pain in the ass coding which requires a new sql table and more server load every time someone views a user profile, to check if the vewier is on that person's "allow" list etc.... which i think is an overkill and resources are better spent on other more useful things

like looking up threads by searcheable posts :P

this site IS mainly a messageboard, anyhow. look at the "whois" most of the time: discussions.php 99% of all online users
