I totally agree with your point, but sometimes you can find tracks that goes very well with each other and would have never thought about it before seiing they have compatible keys. mixing in key helps, but you don't need to only rely on that

this might be usefull to someone that knows shit all about music theory but the concept of harmony and what they consider "harmonic mixing" is alot more complicated and open ended than the chart. Every key is compatible with every other key. I think it is all a waste of time considering 90% of your audience will be too fucked up to notice you trainwrecking let alone playing tracks that have some sort of harmonic relationship. And that chart is probably 400 years old. Little late on the whole circle of fifths trend there djs

and i can understand that djs get bored djing considering how retardedly easy it is. I still think their time would be better spent making their own songs or at least making their own edits of songs than doing something like this. But hey i bet djs love to use words like "harmonic". It makes them feel all warm and fuzzy like they are almost a musician or something.

i love it when shitty dj's quit and claim that they "got bored"...
it's even funnier when they start preaching about production to try to make dj's with a passion feel inferior in order to boost their bitter little egos.
you would think such an almighty producer would actually want to encourage dj's to play music...
go figure?

i can't think of any relevant dj that doesn't produce. I also can't think of any relevant dj that would waste their time with harmonic mixing. 99 times out of 100 , the people that talk about harmonic mixing are little retard bedroom djs trying to talk the talk.

I do work for film and video, orchestrations and general arranging. Unlike you , i make a living doing music. I'm not sure how your post has anything to do with me but i hope it made you feel a little more relevant. We should hang out sometime and i can teach you some new music words so you can pose a little better next time.

you want a fuckin' medal or something?
there is a lot of dj's who make decent livings just spinning tunes as well as huge dj's who mix harmonically.
as far as bedroom dj's "talking the talk" i was under the impression that that's what this forum was intended for?
you adding you're bullshit 2 cents is merely that.
and the fact that your intentions are to stifle ppl's creativity is just plain whack dude.
why the fuck do you care so passionately about ppl wanting to learn about incorporating ear training into their mixes that you need shoot them down for it?
contrary to popular belief not everybody here is trying to make a living from music and not everybody's musical interests are the same as your own.
as far "posing"...
i take my "hobby" just serious enough that i can meet some personal goals, maybe have some fun, but not cry myself to sleep about who i am not at the end of the day.
the fact that i or anybody else actually holding interest in the topic of discussion really shouldn't concern you if mixing doesn't interest you, as it is a completely relevant topic to any active dj.
if you got something useful to say about the topic...
i'm all ears dude.
but telling ppl not to bother just makes you opinionated on the subject.
and the fact that so many dj's/ musicians practice harmonic mixing just makes your opinion irrelevant in this case.

"Harmonic Mixing"? lol

It's called a relative minor, and its been taught to first-year music students since Pope Gregory. Another proof that most DJs don't know crap about the music they make a living off of.

Yes, yes he does. If not he's a talentless n00b and shouldn't be baking because he doesn't know how the whole thing works.

I only buy bread where the baker grew his own wheat and hand-built his oven.

I only really dig DJs that hand-crank their own gramophones.

Absolutely.

Also, I only listen to music where the producer built and programed his own synths and samples nothing; If they use drum loops, it's because they sampled it on the sampler that they built themselves from scratch, on drums that they built themselves using wood from trees they chopped down and skins from an animal they killed themselves.

Because, really, producing is something so simple, any monkey can do it, but only the REAL producers actually build the gear they use to make music with.

next thing you know you guys will only suck on tittys that you bred yourself through incest...
honestly...
whatever floats your boat guys...
but can someone post me a simple tutorial on an easy way to determine the key of .wav files without racking my "simpleton dj" brain to hard?
as i mentioned before... i have logic 8 pro with all the fixins...
and i'll download something else if logic can't do it...
but i'd prefer something free and simple.
please tell me that all you guys really aren't that worthless...

honnestly george, I do things the old fashionned way, I just find the notes on my synth and listen to a track and I can find out which key the track is... though most of the time I can do it by ear, without using my keys, if its simply to find tracks in same range or key...

You ppl get offended so easily heh. No it's not necessary for the baker to know how wheat is grown, just as it is not necessary for the dj to know why A is the relative minor of C. But just like a baker who knows what flour to use to get what type of bread, anybody remotely serious about music should know that A is the relative minor to C. You don't need to know WHY it is this way, just that it is this way and what you can do with that. But to need a chart? Its like going in a bakery and see the baker reading "Bakery For Dummies".
