Every week or so I'll be setting up a different question that will result in a party next June.
Please pretty please help me out by voting only once, it takes two seconds, you don't have to register or enter any personal info.
Thank you very much!

Dude, you should have the music you like at your party. Go with what you want to hear and what you already know. Psytrance is your thing, so that's where you should concentrate. There's a good crowd for it in Montreal too.
I'm feeling warcracked right now..

I agree with le D u might as well stick 2 pretty
much 2 psy full-on prog djs cause thats what u do
and probably know the most about.
u probably will know a lot of the djs which is always
good!(less stress if your short!)
and most of all the psy parties r among the easiest to bring
a crowd!
select different djs from different crews!
example:rickam-techsafari
anima-filthy crew!
clown-jester
sinae-mofarlo
+djs like seb,longstocking
+plug your dj frends et voila un bon party!
I'm feeling l.o.v.e right now..

I DON'T AGREE WITH THIS, I THINK YOU SHOULD BE WILLING TO PLAY MUSIC YOU DON'T LIKE...

i dont understand. lets compare a painter to a promotor.
Does a painter use a color that doesnt fit in the rest of the paint just to please people who like this color?
If that color doesnt have nothing to do at all with the subjet, does pleasing others is a valuable creative motor essence?

in another way, a painter should be able to paint a subject that he don't like? let say, a nihilism painter who got critict of other people saying '' yo your shit are just obscur and dark, i would prefer some colors and gayness''
Would the artist put appart his philosophy just to please other?

I said earlier:
''yeah, the point is not the please as much person as you can, is to please you first. That's where authenticity is from, that is what seduce. ''

authencicity is a key to creativity, the monumental art as Kandinsky spoke of.
There's not much diffence between creating a party, with all its component (line-up, deco etc)
than putting on a canvas a concept. .

in other words, artist who work like whore, over contract are cook as said Picasso,
they have created a cake mold and now, they make cake, not art.
Update » BOBDYLAN wrote on Thu Oct 11, 2007 @ 11:52am
cake mold, a patern. You see those kind of artist everywhere,
lets talk about comedian for a second (just another example)
would you prefer to play truly the caracter of Hamlet
understanding the complexity of his psychologic side
or would you be satisfy as playing it very mecanical and easily?

playing it mecanical would get you good critic and easy understanding out of this caracter from madam and mister X, but for the artist itself, he wouldnt much satified of his work. . That's again a question of authencity, do you create stuff to please? or because you truly need to be part of your art. . .

Bleh, i dont like what you said basdini, it reminds me of a prehistorical rhetoric of creation. The old pattern that comtemporary art reject; because art is not there to please on a first mather.
I'm feeling mon ami padawan dee right now..

Great analogy mikos...

DJs aren't jukeboxes that come outta some manufacture chain. If you wanna hear your favorite track go buy a turntable, an amp, "your" song (10-15$ a pop for vinyl) and then come back explaining to us why DJs should feel bad about asking for some bread and butter to play at a party.

100% in agreement with McKo_S.

If I were you Alien_Zed, i would not ask for any input. I would try to produce my vision. Thats what I (and my two partners) did with Birth of a Fairy. It was not a commercial success, but to me it was the perfect rave (the way i value it: Kick ass music I love (Acid + Psy), kick-ass deco (I still get good comments 6 years after the fact), kick-ass staff to create a kick-ass ambience, free gifts, food, nice security, age limit etc..)

On a side note, if anyone has a couple of those metal/glowstick fairies, i'd really like to get my hands on one as a souvenir. Ppl took all of them (Granted thats what I wanted, but i should have saved one :( )
I'm feeling booooored right now..

uh, in this day and age most DJ'S ARE JUKEBOXES and thats why the DJ should feel bad about asking for some bread to play at a party. ok, maybe "bad" isnt necessarily the wright word for what they should feel, but something along the lines of modesty is probably key here, on more than wone level.

check bin:

... just cause you like music, have turntables, an amp and spend money on records to play for other people, maybee even on several different occasions it doesnt make you a dj; in the sense that, if i have an idea of a house in mind, i go buy tools and material and build the house, and even if i do it a few times it doesnt necessarily make me a contractor.

credit is certainly due when its due... but dj's can be such prima fucking donas sometimes.

sheesh.
