However, you are obligated to produce the accepted identification card in context (driver's licence in a car, for example). You are also obligated to prove your identity by many means if an authority asks you. So if a cop gets you for jaywalking, its not a crime to not have your card, but it is a crime to avoid identifying yourself. Which kinda forces you to cary a card because if not, the only alternatives are to go to the police station and get someone to confirm your identity once there. |
