i think that something is being forgoton here...i specifically avoided this thread for a while cause i don't really like discussions like this one...i will however give my opinion now for what it's worth

i think that we have to admit to ourselves first and most generally that we are not changing the world by throwing raves and being party kids, secondly and narrowly i believe that it is imposible to 'save' a 'scene'(furthermore i doubt those words really have a meaning in that context)

on the first point:

we have to get away from this idea that we are somehow changing the world or creating some revolution by doing what we do, this is simply not the case. If you believe to the contrary please explain to me why and how this is, i believe that is naive and some how juvenile to ascribe to this view. If we were going to change the world by doing this we would have seen some evidence of it by now, i frankly don't society as whole is just as sick and troubled as was in the 1970s (when this can be said to have begun), perhaps in some ways it can even be argued that it is sicker and more troubled today then ever. The idea that if we get enough people getting high, partying all night, and experimenting with alternative sexual experiences (group sex and voluntary bi-sexuality), all while they are experiencing non-conventional visual arts and musics, and by doing this, somehow, someway, somewhere it will spark a societal shift in perspective (and everything will change as a result) seems wrong headed to me and perhaps misses the point of the whole activity.

on the second point:

whatever the 'scene' is, and i don't think me or anybody for that matter can answer this, it can not be 'saved' by a single person or even group of people...This to me is obvious, if the 'scene' does exist it exists not as a thing but as an idea, a movement more properly an organic entity that lives, breathes and dies by the people involved with it. Why would it be any different? It is group consciousness that moves across both space and time, all the while picking people up and dropping people off, like all non physical organic entities it evolves and changes overtime. New people bring new ideas and the thinking and tastes of people change over time. The 'scene' doesn't need 'saving', saying that is applying the wrong catagory to the wrong thing. It's not as if it's an animal like a panda or a nile river crocodile, it's absurd to think of it that way in my opinion.

having said both of these things i want to say something else, if there is any group that is both changing the world and/or 'saving' the 'scene' it is the NTK collective, and i will explain why, before that though i would like to prempt anybody who will say i am kissing their ass or sucking up or any such nonsense, 1) i don't know them that well (although i have been to a few of their parties and speak to them occaisionaly when i see them) 2) I do not believe that there is a high probablility of me throwing a party ever again, i think those days a largely behind me (it doesn't interest me like it used to)i don't really have any hopes of working on events with them in the future.

The reason i believe that the NTK is perhaps because if they are doing those things they don't care about those type of things (especially the second, i have a hard time seeing them sitting around someones coffee table and saying to themselves "how can we possibly save the 'scene' in m-city"), they do their thing because they like to do it, they like to live the way they do. If they change the world or save the scene, it's largely a secondary effect of their relentless search for esthetic and intellectual nourishment, true hedonists to the end. If they do either of these things they may not even be aware of it, if they do i don't think they care. In a sense, i suspect, they don't promote their 'thing' rather they are their 'thing'... living a lifestyle that they find rewarding, if other people show up for the ride so much the better, i don't think they care if 10 or 10000 people show up for their events so long as they get to do exactly what they want to do with the evening.

Can you imagine if they did multi room parties with different styles of music? It would certainly be something to see, but i doubt they ever will, i don't think it appeals to them.

If anyone from the NTK wants to disagree with what i have just said about them please do so and post it, i would love to hear it from the original source rather than just speculate,

The only other person that i think can really be described as doing either of the two things i mentioned is Noah and that's because he created ravewave...this is important not because this gives us the chance to bicker, argue and generally be dicks to each although that is fun...rather, what ravewave has done is create a written history of this thing of ours, cataloguing it, if you will, so that some day people will be able to look and see what this was all about, i think this has it's greatest consequences in the future rather than in the present...

wow that turned out to be a longer post than i intended, please forgive my early morning ranting and babbling...
I'm feeling surly right now..
