I just want to point out that I've checked the admission cost for this show in a few other cities and it has consistently been in the $20-25 dollar range.

We're spoiled rotten.
I'm feeling vagitron right now..

And that's a GOOD thing, that ringing in your ears after a party is PERMANENT damage. Louder does not equal better. And most of the time, the people who play and want LOUD redline the mixer, and you lose all definition and can't hear anything.

Durring Calyx and Teebee's set, you could actually HEAR the details in the tracks, the basslines, the midrange, they were all CLEAN and not distorted, not too loud.. And from where I was sitting, there was a decent amount of bass, but again, there could have been more, but that would require pumping up the rest of the system so that everything else is on par, and then we're back to damaged hearing and things being so loud you can't make out the work put into the track production.

There may have been a lack of bass, but it's the cleanest and most crisp sound I've ever heard at a party without having my ears blown off.

not looking to start a debate on this. I'm glad no-one else was bothered and everyone enjoyed those top djs.
but let me clarify a few things :

first loud does not equal earing damage. a badly enginered system will hurt your ears no matter the actual spl.
second I was more than happy with the spl and enginering of the mid-tops in there. Like I said Nexo stuff probably with it's very own plug and play digital controller. I can only wish there was a similar system to produce bass frequencies, not even talking about sub even kick bass wasn't there that night.
it's bass which was missing and btw you don't 'hear' bass frequencies, you feel them. Bass never hurt your ears, badly setup mid and high does.
Also I think the splaying of the cabs was stupid, creating loads of phases issues and therefore dead-spots on the dancefloor.

To be honnest this is by far the worst setup of a sound system I've heard in Montréal and pretty much ever. Which I found outraging considering the quality line-up. Even tho it didn't hurt like some other places do, point taken.

Also if I may for the wanabee dj problem, there's a few solutions at hand, from the cheap but surprisingly effective big sticker on the mixer saying 'RED = BAD DJ', to the top end yet affordable solution of a Formula Sound AVC2 (google that interesting toy), or the good old fashionned stand behind the dj with a big stick.
I'm feeling under society right now..
