I like being in control of how a tracks sounds in the end.. but sometimes I really wish techno labels had proper sound engineers so that once a great ideas have come together to form a would be killer tune.. someone else could take over and polish it properly to the labels standards. I think it really sucks that in this feild were expected to do everything and be everything.. Every label Ive encountered has different standards and I spend more time mixing and remixing tunes than writing them... most of the time I have tracks refused its because the mix isnt up to par for that specific label..its as If the actual ideas don't even matter anymore.
I'm feeling hr, br, fr, sr right now..

The main problem is the huge lack of any psytrance commercial profit. All the labels I know of are run by the main artist on the label, and this tells us a lot about how 'worth it' it is to try to sell psytrance. Sure they would make more money if people weren't downloading illegally all the time but the simple fact is there isn't a big enough ratio of consumers to support our beloved style properly.
I personally have never cared that much about sound quality, because deep down inside I know I will slowly get better or learn things from others, and for me, it IS all about the ideas, a typical raver, I think, won't care so much about the quality as long as it's not painful. Hell, some electronic sounds better 'dirty', some really cleanly made songs suck, because they lack character.
This applies similarly to distortion on an electric guitar, it sounds better grungy.
anyway, psytrance is such a tiny piece of the global music scene and it is so flooded with old and new artists that no one is interested in someone else's ideas anymore, every one just cares about their own production. This is very similar to the rest of the industry though, being 'good' isn't good enough, you need to know highly placed people and push push push.
It sometimes feels like half of everyone I meet who likes psytrance, also makes it.

alienzed: I think Infected Mushroom did pretty good, and so did astral projection... But the former is a super talented group ahead of most others, and the latter is an older group that was around just when that style of music was developing. And both are from Israel which is where half of all the psy/goa/whatever groups come from.
