well whatever blanket term you want to use for all those genres , the faster it is , the easier it is to mix. So if your music is faster than psci trance , then it is easier to beathmatch.

well i would say that is a big part of mixing , not of being a dj but mixing isn't really a big part of being a dj. A dog can mix.

well its the base that everything else rides on I'll give you that.. but once your beats are lined up.. thats where the real talent shines through with what you do to make the tracks blend. My goal is always to make it sound like it was produced that way, so no frequency stacking/masking no offkey overlapping creating cuts and frequency sweeps to introduce other elements of the sound. I do mix a form of trance so my mission is to keep the dancefloor in the zone no matter what. I dont really see why this wouldnt be a mission for any dj regardless of the genre. Personally I dont think it should ever be too flagrant that the dj is mixing and the better ones you dont really even notice unless you know the tracks very well.

then i would say there are so many variables that dificulty is relative and can only be judged by how many people are doing it. THe more people do something , the more the bar tends to be raised thus raising the level of difficulty. For example , the piano majors are school play 8 hours a day every day for like 10 years but you could be an awesome harmonica player if you only did a tenth of that.

any monkey can mix/beatmatch as far as i'm concerned

what makes a great DJ for me primarily is someone who can introduce me to music that i love... I really don't dig hearing a DJ play tracks i've already heard 10 times... a great DJ puts a lot of time into finding the right music to play... and also presents it in the right way, right tracks, right order, right flow overall...

Making a mess of a mix is a forgiveable offence IMO if the music's good... if it keeps happening, then the DJ probably shouldn't be up there... But claiming you're the best DJ because you can beatmatch perfectly is a little bit ridiculous...

so, arguing about who's a better DJ is kinda pointless, given that music is a matter of taste...
I'm feeling pensive right now..

i think the whole concept of djing is kinda overated. Like imagine if one day , being able to like use a microwave became like trendy and rockstar like .

a valid point for sure... I do however know a few guys/gals who play great fuckin music (suits my taste anyway) and collect records obessively, and I always enjoy hearing them play...

as for playing the microwave - man, don't knock it... the trick is to make sure that it doesn't overheat - that 'ping' has to come at exactly the right time... all the kids are crazy about that new microwave shit...

Its easy...sometimes (most times) a good party only needs a selectah

When its a true party, and all the heads are out that take notice, you require a dj.

Learn to be polyvalent, and you can rock out both parties

I'm feeling like a killer robot right now..
