Hydro Issues

ok so i got a phonecall the other night from my old landlord.
they noticed that they had paid our hydro bill for the past 3 months. on our lease, it states that we were responsible for paying hydro, but we never got a bill, so never had to pay anything. this probably means the landlord paid our bills for the last 2 years by mistake. how can i legally get out of oweing them money, since I dont owe hydro cuz they always paid it, but we now owe the landlord...

but you know what i mean, the landlord paid it.
we lived in thier bottom floor of thier apt, each floor has a meter, they paid both. so we dont owe shit to hydro, but the landlord wants to get the amount they paid by accident... can they do that?

uhh.. yeah...... I'm not sure why you're trying to negate a bill that you incurred..
you got electricity that you were supposed to be paying, they goofed and paid for you when they shouldn't have. If they show you the bill and it was in fact used by you.. you should pay it.

Just pay your bill. If not for the sake of keeping a good relationship with your landlord or fairness than do it because you would probably lose in court. If I were your landlord I would just claim you never payed your rent and you wouldn't have because I'd put it straight towards paying off your hydro bill.

They can sure sue your ass off, and if you still refuse to pay, they can have the court force you to pay a penalty starting from the moment he first asked you to pay (but he can't ask you to pay a penalty for that time he forgot to ask you the money).
My opinion: Find the money to pay the guy, take arrangements with him if you will, but don't find a way to avoid your responsibility 'coz it will only make the matter worst for you

i got evicted in march, so keeping a good relationship with my landlord isnt an issue anymore.
just looking for a loophole in the system, cuz there are many. like if i could pay off the amount they actually noticed that we never paid, and leave it at... they havent figured out that we NEVER paid a single bill yet, so maybe we'll get lucky. we never gave them any info regarding the hydro, we just said that it was setup and we've been paying it. I'm still amazed that it took them 2 years to actually notice something is wrong.

Faking your death would probably be the best loop (6 feet deep)hole you can find at this point. |

well if they never showed it to you till now then they're kinda assholes for it.. if you pay you should pay over a period of months.. it's not right to just throw a huge bill at you like that..

Right on this point, and as long as you pay a bit on a regular basis, there is nothing he can legally do against you. He can make sure that you pay, but he cannot chose at what pace you pay him, as long as it is a reasonable amount compared to your revenues (i.e. paying $1 per month won't save you, but $30 a month should do the trick if you earn under than 30k per year)

Hydro Quebec allows agreements to finance your bill over a period of 6 months. THey will charge you 3% interest. |
