| Yeah, but bikers are dangerous and might stand a chance at putting up some resistance! Bikers have guns and money, and cops have no balls, they only uphold the law when it's easy and conveniant and doesn't risk them getting them or their families hurt. |

| bikers is a different thing... bikers are behind all the illegal thing you can imagine ... they are not the case right now even if they run everything (like clubs, drugs, money, and a bunch of stupid shit). its true that if we find a legal place we are gonna have to deal with them if we want to or not... |

| That's the thing, though, and one of the reasons that you'll see cops going after people who can't defend themselves and who aren't dangerous (aka us ravers) rather than actual criminals who could pose a threat to them. The cops are suposed to be there to "protect" us, but really they spend most of their time enforcing only the laws that won't endanger them, rather than the laws which will make everyone in the city safer. |

You say cops are "supposed to protect us", but then you bitch when they close a venue with improper fire exits???? if a building burned down and killed 400 kids because they couldn't get out in time, you don't think that would hurt our community, or the city of montreal in general? Try to move beyond the basic "cops are stupid" point of view and join the real world, where things happen for a reason.
I'm sorry but fire safety laws do make everyone safer, and if you can't see that, take off the rave goggles, genius. |

2. The police gave us two reasons for the shutdown which i offered to fix (speakers blocking an exit and an enclosure around an exit). After i told them we were happy to fix these issues immediately the cop said "Look, you can shut the party down now or I'll have the fire department come and they can fine you for every single tiny issue that's wrong with this place.""
How is that not about a fire exit? All exits in a building are "fire" exits. |

i would think that quote proves my point much more than it proves yours....I don't see what you are getting at. The cops shut down the venue because they considered it unsafe. They were going to have the fire department come and write tickets to that effect. It seems pretty clear to me. |

| where you there ? i dont know.....but i was. i've been throwing parties since 2001. Everytime copes came they were 2. They take a look and leave. And then after came 8 or 10 to shut the party down....Now in that case they got in and were already 8 or 10...WITHOUT EVEN TAKING A LLOK AT THE PLACE FIRST! Fire exit my ass! |

| i was not there, and you will notice that my initial posts in this thread are mainly to do with how much it pisses me off when people blame the police for shutting down parties when they should be blaming the promoters for not choosing venues that would last all night longe.
You know that I have also thrown my share of parties. I've had police come to every single party I have ever been involved in, and I have had them come multiple times in the same night. 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 officers, whatever. And the parties were not shut down, because the venues were safe and there were no legitimate reasons to close down the party. I have even had the police arrest someone at one of my parties and yet the party was allowed to continue.
I didn't intend to turn this into a pissing contest about "promoter experience". I know you have thrown parties as well, but cops do not shut down safe venues unless they have other valid reasons (noise complaints, crowds gathering on the street, etc). |

| it's not like i'm making this up...fire safety is a commonly known law as it applies to venues. if you pack kids into a building with only one way out, or with exits that are too small or don't lead away from the building, then you will get shutdown. These laws have been in existence for DECADES and they are there to protect us. When you re-purpose a venue for a party, you have to make sure there are valid fire exits, plain and simple. It's ok if you don't believe me, but maybe you have never had police ask to see a building's capacity permit, or ask you to show them each exit and that each exit was clear and accessible. I have. |

| i know that safety comes first it's always like that. Looking at the halfpipe and quterpipes and everything made in wood, i higly doubt that the owner never thought about fire exit. what about the fractal what was wrong with it ? they also talked about that place not being safe enough...2 weekes in a row same reason ? Update » Sickness wrote on Tue Apr 3, 2007 @ 3:19pm it just reminded me like tipsy said, the series of bust that happened in 2002 and 2003 it has stopped after a couple of months or maybe less...but they were busting everyparty for no good reasons. exemple : shutting down attaraxie for security reasons....it was in a church..there is alot of fire exit and they werent block. in that case, yes they were blocked but ryan wanted to push everything aside for the security of everyone...son in that idea,i think it will probably end soon |
