It's not like they changed the dialog in the movie from the comic. It's as it was written, and it was written 2 years before bush even got "elected" for his first term. You can apply that whole "we want freedom" thing to ANY civilisation. North america is the way it was because people wanted more freedom than they were being given by the british government, does that mean that our history is actually american propaganda?

The only connection linking this story to the current state of affairs in the world is the one you're choosing to see. It's a fictional story based loosley on actual events that happened in 480 BC. There was also a movie made in 1962 that dealt with the same story of the 300 Spartans that went against what the greek council instructed, and it's what inspired Frank Miller to write his version, and at the time that version was said to reflect the cold war.

The story in itself is not "propaganda", it's simply a story that can be seen to have elements of any war or conflict that's going on at the moment if you chose to make the association yourself.

You need to read up and understand what propaganda is a little more.

* tousse * i think i understand perfectly what's propaganda mean. lol if u knew my family history u would understand! ;p

i really saw propaganda in that movie. i'm not the only one. i even read article where they mention the fact that in iran the movie was really taking bad..

we have different opinion. we have different perception maybe. maybe i'm mistaken but i'm still in my initial position for the moment.

The battle that 300 is based on -> [ en.wikipedia.org ]

And if you'd read any of the articles, you'd know that the iranians are pissed off and call it propaganda to get people to hate them for the war that the US is most probably going to hit them with next, COMPLETELY MISSING THE FACT that the FICTIONAL COMIC that the movie is based on was written when CLINTON was still in office, and has absolutely NOTHING to do with the current state of political affairs.

And let's not forget that the movie went into initial production in 2003, on a comic that was written in *1998*, LONG before bush was in office and before there was even any sort of HINT that there would be any kind of invasion of Iran. If it's going to happen this year, then Frank Miller had some super-secret inside info from the "illuminati" or whoever it is that "runs the world" That there was going to be an invasion of Iran 9 YEARS after his book was written.

Producer Gianni Nunnari had nourished a passion for the Battle of Thermopylae since his youth. However, the story was already in development under director Michael Mann as Gates of Fire. Nunnari discovered Frank Miller's graphic novel 300 and decided that it could serve as the basis for a film. He acquired the rights to the novel from Miller. By May 2003, the project was being produced by Nunnari and Mark Canton, while Michael B. Gordon had completed a second draft of 300 that was 121 pages long. In June 2004, director Zack Snyder, previously known for Dawn of the Dead, was hired to direct the film. Snyder, who had already attempted to make a film on the basis of Miller's novel, worked with screenwriter Kurt Johnstad to rewrite Gordon's script for production. Miller was attached to the project as executive producer and consultant.

I have to stop you there. It's been explained back when the comic was written and been re-explained every time someone talks about it by Frank Miller AND any kind of Greek historian willing to be objective.

Spartans HAD homosexuals. They practiced homosexuality. They had NOTHING against homosexuality. Please pay attention to the words here: "boy lovers". Not "man lovers". It is not a comment against homosexuality but against pedophilia. Athenians used to "tutor" young kids in more ways than one...

Update » Holly_Golightly wrote on Sun Mar 18, 2007 @ 3:26pm

Absolument glorieux! 1 000 fois bravo.

SPARTANS!!!! They call themselves immortals, lets test their name !!!

Mouhahaha!!
