i 've tried to give bums food...they usually tell me to fuck off....a truly needy person will accept food...

Once when i was pretty broke myself, i gave money to a dude who was "starving"...saw him in the arcade 20 minutes later playing mortal combat....shit, i couldn't afford to go to the arcade myself...

he could of at least bought drugs with it....

i will only give someone money if they trully look like they need it of course there are the few people that are just there trying to get money to buy horrible things but the ones with the look of pure hunger in their eyes do deserve my spare change.

i use my intuition now....sense who REALLY needs help as opposed to those just bumming change...

I agree with Caro...you can see it in their eyes...

Some of these guys are making over $100 a day...that's more than me...

u know what's a lot more interesting than giving/not-giving money to the homeless ?

actually stopping, and talking to them as human beings.

all kinds of crazy stories, all kinds of crazies.

genuinely look them in the eye and i have found that they are more than ready to share their minds and thoughts with you.

what i find so fascinating is that most of the time these people are completely open and sincere - they are fully prepared to connect on a temporary yet incredibly human level.

No i see the homeless almost every day. I have even named some of them for i see them in the same places day in, day out. Yes i know that for most it's not their fault, but some can get off the street but don't. Prime example the one armed bandit(the guy that has only one arm and sits outside with his shirt off). This guy makes a killing from getting change. I have a otomatic responceto thjings nowe...always "NO!!!" It is not that i don't care it is just i have been asked way too much!!!!

This is a bit off-topic but i don't care ;
My friend receives welfare,he sells weed and he passes flyers for a cheezy club (10 hours a week), so he wakes up at noon or later, sits on its lazy ass all the time, and makes twice the money as i do by working full-time....
That's frustrating,but i think he's a fuckin lazy one...
I don't wanna be on welfare, rather work hard then get hooked on lazinesssss...

homeless people are usually genuine souls.

living in the streets, you learn to make friends with people not just because of their bank account, wardrobe or social status. you go through so many psycho situations and twisted coincidences that you become much less shallow. then again, you realize how things would be much better if everybody helped each other out instead of competing.

i respect much more someone that has been struggling for his survival than a spoiled kid that has never learned anything essential out of all of his life.

Cloak: I'll have to disagree. If youre homeless, wouldnt you have more tendencies to try to be friends with people that have money?

two things i've never understood about homeless people:

1) why do they stay here in montreal? why not move somewhere warm..?

2) why do they sometimes have pets..? do animals not consume food that he/she could be eating?

i don't think you got my point.

poor people don't judge each other, don't steal stuff from each other and don't only think of life as a money-making quest. as long as you're not hungry or cold, you're fine.

well maybe not all homeless people are like that in montreal but if someone takes advatage of someone else, then that person will be pointed at.
