this is a good one
A sad manifestation of how easy it is to brainwash people with absolute bullshit. Refers to anyone who would rather spew loud nonsense than think critically.

"The bullfighter's biggest worry is not being gored; it's slipping on an unseen pile of Anne Coulter."

"i think one of the clearest signs of authoritarian police states is that their idealogical bogey men ( or women in this case) are alowed to run wild unchallenged by intelligent and critical people, this becomes all the more acute when it becomes obvious that this writter+thinkers are quite obviously hacks with little or no deep understanding of the subjects on which they write and speak..."

I really hope you weren't trying to make a joke at my expense.

On the right, you've got Coulter, Reilly, Limbaugh.
On the left, you've got Moore, Franklin, and Koz.

They're all professional polemecists.
For those who object to my choice of left-wing screamers...
Agreeing with vitriol doesn't make it less vitriolic.

Agreed. Perhaps you won't mind putting your own thoughts through a little critical analysis? I'm interested in testing them against common logical fallacies, filtering them through the meta-model (seeing if you've deleted, generalized, or distorted any relevant information), comparing them to opposing viewpoints, and seperating your evaluative arguments from your fact-based predicate heavy arguments.

Limbaugh is more libertarian than right now (although he still sides with the right on a lot of issues). Unlike Coulter and O'reilly, he has some good points sometimes too. Plus he did drugs!

I find the distinction useful.

How else am I to seperate the neo-facists (the left) from the old school facists (the right)?

This thread is about the American Police State.

Basdini,

I would be far more worried about the liberal police state. In Europe, it is a crime to mock religion. If you critize Mohammed, you face jail, threats, and death. Hirsan Ali, the Dutch Politician, had to have around the clock security because she dared speak out against Islam.

The american police state is a pussy cat compared to the growing threat of left-wing neofacism.

Tommy Franks the general who led the invasion of iraq sai about a year and a half ago that if there is another terroist attack on US soil, especially if it involves weapons of mass destruction the constitution will be most likely discarded in favor of a military style government. This is an ominous indication of the looming police state in america....
I'm feeling surly right now..

That's not a police state, that's a war government. When you go to war, you end up giving up some rights for the safety of your country. The same shit happened during WW1 and WW2. If someone attacks the USA with a weapon of mass destruction, then they are at war at that point. You can't have people trying to fuck up your country from the inside when you are at war.

We should just be happy it hasn't happened.

the whole point about the patriot act being undemocratic is that the USA isn't really at war with anyone. They got hit by a terrorist act, by PEOPLE WHO TRAINED FOR IT INSIDE THE COUNTRY. The got fucked from the inside. NOw they are paranoid.

i tink this is interesting

it must be "conceded that one of the most stubornly ingrained characteristics of American democracy has been it's inability to accept and experience military involvement without becoming seriously disoriented by it and without permitting it to distort judgment on other questions of policy..." George Kennan 1976

this is the problem with the war on terror it is not designed to ever end and slowly over time will blead american democracy to death...i think it's clear that perpetual war is the goal of the republican party at this point, because it renders democracy vapid and empty...
I'm feeling surly right now..
