meditation...?
i think there is a way to touch it with certain sounds. or drugs. the pineal gland produces the natural brain dmt, so there... umm, i don't know where i'm going with this. just associations.
I'm feeling oh yeah right now.. |

it has been proposed by Rick Strassman that the pineal gland is responsible for manufacture of endogenous dimethyltryptamine (DMT) although this is only speculation. However, significant (or any?) DMT production by the pineal gland has not been reported in the referred scientific literature (PubMed search as of July 24, 2006). |

mm yeah it mainly produces melatonin, regulating sleep and wake time, depending on the hours of daylight one recieves. (winter/summer)

yeah, my post that took me so long got erased.
I could see how certain drugs such as E (ones that keep one up) may fuck with melatonin. We fool our brain into thinking we ought to be awake and yet usually we would be sleeping, tired etc. Poor little pineal gland!! IT's probably confused---- awake when normally would be tired and vice versa. definately confusing our system.-- but how much and to what extent can/does the pineal gland get affected? Mind you the fact that a large chunk of us work inside for most of the daylight practically and get very little direct sunlight as a result of our lifestyles-- this affects our pineal gland, amongst other things?!. |

how poetic! I actually feel like I have learned something from you. Yes, I am surprised, in the curious, loving sense. I mean I am NOT saying, " I can't beleive I learned something from YOU"... Obviously, I don't much know you-- then again vice versa. |

to_discover - extasy affects serotonin, not melatonin. melatonin would be more affected by not-sleeping the night, whether you took e or not does not matter here.
madeskimo - st-john's wort = natural antidepressants. you can buy them in caps in a drugstore or make teas of hand-picked ones you can find in wild-flower fields all summer long. i know a spot where they grow in montreal, pm me if you're interested to know more. chemical antidepressants is crap for the brain, they are addictive and they put money in the pockets of the biggest drug dealers we don't want to encourage; the pharmaceutic industries. november is a tough month for sunlight. go outside, and use brighter lightbulbs. eat oranges, bananas, turkey, milk, oats... they are food that contain 5-htp, an ingredient that is the precursor to the formation of serotonin, the natural feel-good chemical in the brain. most anti-depressants either deal with the serotonin or the dopamine receptors. have sex, do exercise.

DID YOU KNOW THAT YOU HAVE A LOPSIDED PINEAL GLAND?
Well, probably you do have one, and it's unfortunate because lopsided Pineal Glands have perverted the Free Spirit of Man, and subverted Life into a frustrating, unhappy and hopeless mess. Fortunately, you have before you a handbook that will show you how to discover your salvation through ERIS, THE GODDESS OF CONFUSION. It will advise you how to balance your Pineal Gland and reach spiritual Illumination. And it will teach you how to turn your miserable mess into a beautiful, joyful, and splendid one. Hail Eris! All Hail Discordia!
I'm feeling picnicbasketted right now.. |
