In other words, the second you start listening to something other than the stereotypical 'black genres' they look at you funny. I've had to deal with that for years not to mention talk about 'turning my back on my culture' and what not. So overall, why are there next to no black ravers? Because it's simply not their thing, and if it is, they're just worried about what their peers would say. At least that's what I think from what I've seen. |

i think it's a bit of every reason that was mentioned in this thread especially some of what Densetsu said cause i think it applies to what i've experienced my asian peers as well them being more a minority and identifying more with how they're represented in the mainstream like any teenager that'll identify with some popular icon that... or not for some it's a phase and some will lock themselves in that mentality forever took me a long time to find out i didn't have to feel like an oddball and be pressured into all this wack stuff they were into sometimes i'm embarased with the generalisations and disfunctions associated with oriental people but im aware and open enough to admit that there's a bit reason and truth in some all form of racism |

At least that's what I think from what I've seen. it's just a matter of demographics...there are black people in m-city just not that many...most of the black people in montreal are haitians, i would guess that blacks represent less 10% of the population, there are more Arabs than black people i think...anyway if you go to other places like New york or chicago the proportion jumps significantly to higher than 25-30%... i for one totally welcome anyone to any of our gatherings "black skin, brown skin, yellow skin, white skin,..." chemical brothers off of 'Surrender' |
