we never ask permission for events like this; transit workers agree it's best not to ask because obviously they can't condone such a thing.

instead we put up huge rules and pray nobody breaks them; sometimes they will ride with us, allowing the party to continue and they will ticket people if they vandalize something, for example

the name of the game is "don't be stupid". it's worked :)

we have a soundsystem called "newsoundspace", a 200W speaker-sub combo powered by a 600 amp power cell. it can all fit into a piece of rolling luggage and disassembled in 10 seconds. :) the music usually comes from an iPod but if you want to risk your equipment you are welcome to jack into our power. we will probably be playing breaks, a touch of jungle and maybe a hardcore track here and there.

Its more sensible than carrying around turntables and a mixer!.. oh and a surface to put them on..

Are you playing mixes or just track after track.

if somebody can hook up a mixer, even a little one, we can use 2 iPods and a mixer

we did an event on a toronto streetcar with cdj's and a mixer, that was ill, but this is a little harder

have you ever had the misfortune of meeting montreal metro cops? theyre not exactly reknowned for their compassion and understanding, but more their ability to cause severe bodily harm with no visible traces....

strength in numbers :) honestly we will not be breaking as many rules as people seem to think. as long as nobody is smoking or standing on the seats, we are all fare-paying, law abiding partiers who happen to be dancing

pyrotix... a word to the wise, the STM has severe penalties for "loytering"(which can vary depending on their version of the story) among other things, and those bully/wanabe/failed cops arent very positive people in general... if I were u, I'd read the "regles du system de metro", you can find them posted on the wall at any metro station, go over them with a fine comb and be sure there's nothing that they can do, cause trust me from personal experience, if they find an angle, they'll use it angaist you, and the po-po will show up no matter what station u end up @... there actually might even be a rule against dancing in the metro(im not joking) either way, seriously, do this, cause it could save you and a lot of your kool friends some serious ass, no fun, pain in the brain, headaches...

Ufot-be friendly, punch first ask questions later...

ufot: thank you for pointing me to this; i still believe we are not the kind of people the STM is trying to fine. strength in numbers is definitely an important part of a transit party; the fact that the event generally doesn't have a "leader" (the soundsystem is basically a piece of luggage), and the fact that honestly, the worst they would do is ask you to leave on two separate trains.

we prefer to have them ride with us and write tickets for people who are clearly breaking the law. we find some transit workers even enjoy it or dress up in costume! only people who are drinking are really in danger of being ticketed, as far as experience has shown.

drgonzo: sorry! we are hoping to go to europe soon; if we don't, sooner than later! we are hoping for a few hundred more mailing list subscribers also.
