And for everyone else that wants to do more than one - Jester and Synergy have set things up to help you out! Showing your Rewire ticket at Hard as Fuck or Hard as Fuck ticket at Rewire will get you 5$ off the price at the door!

Saving money gives you all the more reason to party hard. I mean, it would be financially irresponsible of you NOT to go to both!!!!!

War declared: Lenny Dee attacks Montreal
Steve Lalla

The king is back: NYC's Lenny Dee, who defined and directed the sound of hardcore through the 1990s, returns to Montreal this week for Hard as Fuck: World War V Friday night. Though Industrial Strength had slowed their operations to a near-halt through the early years of this millennium, hardcore and hard-techno audiences have been pleased to witness a recent rebirth of the label since 2003.
After hearing Lenny excitedly describe innumerable new projects over the phone from Brooklyn, it was blatantly obvious that his zeal for the label and the music has not diminished at all. In fact, with Dee now inspired by techno and experimental sounds, and beginning to feel the rewards of recent fusions with live music, he appears poised to reclaim a leading position in the resurgence of hard sounds in the international dance music community.

I asked Dee if perhaps the political climate in the U.S. had contributed to a weakening of the country's party scene. "Oh, for sure," Dee replied effusively. "With all these rave laws, where if a promoter fucking throws a party and they find one kid with a joint or an E, then the promoter's going to jail, and they don't want to let you serve water. They're making it so impossible to organize raves that no kid with a brain in his head will try. The party scene is not as big as it was, and I think there's a lot less interest from the younger kids, and I can't really fathom that 'cause when I was young and partying and going out I loved this kind of shit: techno,
hardcore, house music even. For the kids now I think it's a bit of 'seen it, done it,' or they assume it's a fucked-up drug party, when in fact it's really not."

In addition to the trickle-down effects of rave laws, a complete collapse of North American vinyl distributors in 2000-1 precipitated the temporary stagnation of Industrial Strength's regular operations. As if that wasn't enough, Lenny had to endure personal tribulations that brought his own productions to a standstill.

"We had another bad problem which slowed us down after Sept. 11," he explained. "Not only did our home office get a little fucked, setting things back a bit, but shortly after there was a fire in the building where I had my studio, and my entire studio got destroyed!

"So what I did is, being in Europe all the time, I started making tracks with my friends on their labels while I was physically going to court with this guy to pay me my money in New York. That went on for so long that I thought, 'It's silly to keep waiting for this guy, I'm gonna have to sue him.' It was really bad. He started the fire because he had a sweatshop in the building and he didn't want to pay for electricity - one of those guys, so I should've known right there and then that I wasn't gonna get anything from this wanker."

Now, with distributions running exclusively through Europe and an increased presence online, Lenny and his label have weathered the storm, and with their return bring not only new ways of doing business, but also new sounds. Since 2003 Lenny has become more involved with techno music, slower paced than the 200 b.p.m. hardcore of yore, collaborating with, among others, 4X4 Records' Julian Liberator. Liberator accompanies Dee, along with Industrial Strength laptop/live hardcore act Satronica and a spate of leading local DJs, at Hard as Fuck: World War V this Friday, April 14 ($15 in advance; info: [ www.synergyraves.com ]
