basic samples in fruity sucks, but the sytrus is nice
it has nice tools like wavetravellers vocoder and shit when you import your own samples and vst, i think fruity is really powerfull |

give a complete moron a 15k$ studio...and he wont do shit
give a musician a pentium266 with a tracker...and you will be impressed at what he can do... software/gear doesnt make music... the musician does... it doesnt matter which tools you are using... the end product is whats really important... go with what you feel comfortable with... and forget what everyone else is saying... |

I like the portability of reason files and the interface in reason...
Reason is best rewired with another program though I haven't used fruity in a long time so I don't know what is up with it these days, maybe they revamped the whole interface by now.. |

Reason rox...you all suck..GET A LIFE !!!! AAAAA LIFFFEEEEEE
No seriously...Reason will always have the best user friendly interface for alot of reasons wich i will not say. but It does not haveVST support to tha brings it down alot... and fruity loops has vst support..but is gay..so... and I hate the cubase interface. ableton rewired to reason baby :P |

user friendly interface? ..dood...take that back.. I see no advantage spending hours rewiring virtual racks just to get a fr33king stereo signal... as Ian would say .."friends dont let friends use reason" BO! |

I was using Reason for a long time but since i got a good computer, i only use Live. Just the way the software propose you to work is great, the sound quality is awesome and the interface is ultra user-friendly.
On the sound design side, Live kicks Reason's ass big time. Even the built-in effects sounds good. Can't wait for Live 6 in Q3 of 2006 :D |

also there is no version of fruityloops for OS X, while reason (and ableton) are cross-platform compatible. |

In my opinion, Reason's interface is more productive and let's you do whatever you want and use your imagination/ideas as they come (sequencing similar to Cubase). Anyways, an experienced FL user will be able to get a similar job done. Included synths/samples are better with Reason and you got some decent effects there. But as you already know, FL let's you load whatever you want, so you can get a good quality with it too.
So I'd say that FL would be better if you got a bunch of vsts and samples all over the place, BUT, if you got the best samples and a really fucked up mind, you might have more ease making the craziest project on Reason. EQs are very easy to use, same for every effects, but you will need to rewire it all in cubase for the mastering part. And well, I personally switched to Cubase because I got used to sequence in Reason and that Cubase had everything I could ever dream of. But if you got a slow computer Reason and FL are probably the two best solutions. |

well of what i saw and used in reason, fl is WAY more user friendly, in reason you have to connect shit and you just dont know where you are going at, in fl you got your synth, assing it to the mixer slot, put effect and do X patterns
in fact in reason i was never able to lay out a kick, but i only tried it for 30 min and got pissed, when im making music , it has to be fun to produce, not pissing me off i see that most people is sold to reason, but did you ever tried fruity? if you think fruity sucks, go in my profile and download my HHC tracks, 100% made in fruity with samples and vst's |

What matt said is very true... in all, I think both programs complete each other perfectly. |

I think all of us tried Fruity. It's full of useful tools that you end up looking for once you jump to a sequencer like Reason or Cubase. But once you understand the functionning of a full MIDI sequencing environment, for example that you can load a kickdrum into a sampler and assign it to a note in the sequencer to play it in there, you may realize that sequencing is much easier and faster than using the assload of random FL tools like most of the windows that pops when you load it the first time.
ALTHO, when you get past the newbie phase as a FL user, you get to develop techniques and you get rid of the tools that you don't really need. So if you get good at it, I don't see why you would change, except maybe to Cubase for it's sound quality. Lot of friends of mine are producing on other softwares but they master their shit on cubase. |

reason rewired into ableton live is my new ideal setup.. I can pretty much do anything I want with both those programs... use reason for the drum machine and samplers.. ableton for everything else.. |

hehe... Pentium1 with a tracker all the way!!! :) :) :) :) :)
From what I know FL is more versatile than Reason, and Reason is more heavyweight on its own. This opinion does not come from using either, only from observing people use both and hearing opinions of musicians that do. I'm surprised nobody mentioned BUZZ. Are people that fond of knobs and sliders these days? ;) |

I've tried reason and I like it, but like any program, it takes some getting use to and I dont really understand how to do racks... I've been using fruity for a long time and really like it, I find it simple, easy to use and its lego like composition builder makes me feel like a kid again, but Im still producing really basic stuff, Im pretty noob to production, but I have fun and sometimes I really like what I can do with it... I tried ableton and it blew me away, I found the interface super intuitive and easy to use but for the price tag, Ima have to wait a while, I had a cracked version, but it was on crack so it didnt go nowhere... either way, making music is fun and one day I still plan on picking up an MC505 and a 303 ( possibly even an 808 )...
Ufot-kickin it live! |
