 Coolness: 229770 | I'm voicing my interest in working together with the community for the community to create a co-op non profit venue. Here's some of what I envision.. this is an open discussion and I hope you'll all input.
1. Relatively well sized space, multiple rooms, unisex bathroom, lots of storage space, an office room, a computer/internet cafe room, a room with 4-6 bunk beds(for overnight artists and staff), a kitchen/dining area. + 2. Most profits from space rental (affordably priced for community members) goes into the venue to care for overhead costs, consumables, +other 3. Remaining profits are used to stock a large assortment of UV reactive art supplies and other deco items for use both in-house and as community lend and non community rental groups. Also a portion can be used as a fund for community ventures and loans. 4. Display cases for community products(uv lit), a giant bulliton board, a uv artists image thumb/pricelist printout board, a drug information board and a flyer/business card rack in the main entrance. A street level, sidewalk flyer bulliton board(lit at night) and poster space on the outside walls/windows. 5. Staffed by Co-op members on a volunteer basis, remain open 24 hours a day, Events are staffed by event co-ordinators and Co-op community assistance is requestable on a volunteer basis via the bulliton boards. 6. The office should contain a workstation capable of doulbing as a VJ station for events and at least one other system for staff use. Large format Laser Photocopy/Printer. 7. Co-op members have membership cards which give them reduced pricing on Co-op events and at all Co-op member stores, also it gives members access to half price on cafe internet access and full access to the facilities during daytime to create deco or play instruments, dance, poi, or do some other art with friends. 8. The venue should aspire to have four complete sets of dj equipment and sound. Two for in house events and Two for rentals. One set should be usable by dj members during the daytime for practicing in a sound proof booth or under earphones to allow he rest of the facility to function. 9. Sports/Excersize.. some equipment such as a basketball hoop, table tennis.. 10. Community beverages and eats. 11. A rave scene newspaper ran by the co-op? 12. All the money spent in the community stays in the community! 13. Deco! Deco! Deco! This venture can only lead to such wonderful environments for our events! With the ability to store and create large scale deco components on site we'll have a mass of fantastic puzzle pieces to assemble unique settings each party! This is far from a complete concept, just me trying to get an idea out of my head before it gets all stomped on by newer ones. I think a venue by/for the scene is a good idea.. a place for us to gather together and become better friends. A means for us to do more with the money spent in the scene by keeping it in the scene. A place for us to focus out collective create passions and do soemthing really good with them. Open discussion. |

I guess he original idea is quite good, though lacking some precision concerning money : who and how many people should give, and how much, and would there be a sort of accountance keeping... or opposite, would it be a totally anarchist/libertarian zone promoting equality/fairness, such as Freecycle/BECS-SEL/Jeu-Game ? Or would it be a mix of both ? Anyway I'm not able to help financially, but I would probably be glad to lend a hand, or even to participate actively. |

nobody goes to church anymore but the old people. they make fucking condominiums with churches, as if making profit was the true religion. a church is a really beautiful place for parties. ecstatic dancing was the way of the first tribal communities to get in touch with god. :) |

| Coolness: 166670 | or in fact any other abandonned building... i would loooove to work on deco in a big place with all the equipment i would need. could we get anything from the governement for this? we'd have to prove this to be useful for the country well-being.
education about drugs, a place where people can leave stuff they don't want anymore so we can transform it into art... but drugs might be the biggest problem in convincing the government, they all know what happens in a rave. we'd have to prove raves are good for society in a way that is official and convincing. |

| Coolness: 229770 | Ravedave.. #9 doesent necessarily mean the hoop would be in the same room as the art is.. just an idea.. plus I'd rather put MORE ideas up there than have the ones that are there to help start us off get bashed and trashed. Contribute to the concept! And people won't get bored of this plkace like they do of Gravity, since Gravity never changes up its staff and never tries to put up deco of their own.. They suck, this wouldn't!
Matricks: Where exactly did you see me mention anything about underground venues... but besides, with a central gathering and information location for the scene (aside from [ rave.ca ] of course) one where we can group in person regularily and discuss the scene and the future of the community.. I bet we can work together on an underground venue list, one for all the local promoters to use ensemble! AMP_01: Well... I like hip hop, and venues should take whatever they can get if theyre not already booked, so yeah. Plus... we have no idea how this might function since it's only a concept thus far and rent is something that can end up functioning in many different ways.. depending on who(what groups, perhaps the Knights of Columbus?, etc.) is involved.. |

BUT I AM NOT! :p i like the feel of this idea. now i don't know about all the things it implies, but i think the basics of it is to have a place that would serve as a center for the rave community. and the first two things that should come is WHERE and HOW we gonna pay for it. and i really think we need subventions. anyways... who's interested in being active participation in this? |

- show the rentability of using the place for what we want to do - show that we'll create employment and i am thinking... remember a couple years ago the deal with the squatters in the prefontaine abandonned building? what happened to this building? is it still there? is it still a vacant waste? anyone knows? |

my main suggestion tho is that it would mainly serve as a chill/lounge and once in awhile have larger events...near a park or with some outdoor possibilities would be perfect 2 (bbq, terrasse, backyard, whatever) |

 Coolness: 93195 | ahem... if you could convince your investors, government or related, that the space could also be used for community orientated organizations events/meetings etc durring the non-electronic or urban events rental times, it would add some validity to the cause... working with community organizations durring off hours could be a viable secondary form of income for the space... not to mention that if the spaces general appearance and cleanliness allowed, it could also be rented to yoga classes, gymnastic groups etc... nyways, there's my cents fer nowish, and this thread harks to a special place in my heart, where the younger, phat pant wearring candy kid version of moi read this likle book called " the ecstacy club" and fell in love with some silly west coast notions similar those mentioned above... ahem...
