Bush: God told me to invade Iraq

08.10.05
By Rupert Cornwell

President George W. Bush has claimed God told him to invade Iraq and attack Afghanistan, as part of a divine mission to bring peace to the Middle East, security for Israel, and Palestinian independence.

The President made the assertion during his first meeting with Palestinian leaders in June 2003, according to a new BBC series.

The broadcast came on the day Mr Bush launched an impassioned attack in Washington on Islamic militants, likening their ideology to communism, and accusing them of seeking to "enslave whole nations" and set up a radical Islamic empire "that spans from Spain to Indonesia".

In the programme, Elusive Peace: Israel and the Arabs, former Palestinian Foreign Minister Nabil Shaath says Mr Bush told him and Mahmoud Abbas, former Prime Minister and now Palestinian President, that "I'm driven with a mission from God. God would tell me, 'George, go and fight those terrorists in Afghanistan.' And I did, and then God would tell me, 'George, go and end the tyranny in Iraq', and I did."

And Bush is quoted as telling the two men, "I feel God's words coming to me: 'Go get the Palestinians their state and get the Israelis their security, and get peace in the Middle East'. And by God, I'm gonna do it."

The BBC reported that the White House had dismissed the allegations as "absurd". "He's never made such comments," said White House spokesman Scott McClellan.

But the BBC account is anything but implausible, given that throughout his presidency Mr Bush, a born-again Christian, has never hidden the importance of his faith.

He told Bob Woodward - whose 2004 book Plan of Attack is the definitive account of the road to war in Iraq - that after giving the order to invade, he walked in the White House garden, praying "that our troops be safe, be protected by the Almighty". He told Woodward, "I was praying for strength to do the Lord's will. I'm surely not going to justify war based upon God. Understand that. Nevertheless, in my case, I pray that I will be as good a messenger of His will as possible. And then of course, I pray for forgiveness."

A guy told me about this preacher show he watched that plays on cable, i forget his name, but he reads news with an eye on the bible. A few months back he reported on his show that Condoleeza Rice contacted him personally to ask questions from Bush: does his current foreign policy coincide with the book of revelations, and if not, how could he alter his policy so that it will.
This guy went on to say that revelations is actually matching up with what's going on. He said that the u.s. would become hostile with China after it raised a certain number of troops (which it has), and that Russia would then ally itself with China and that this would spell the end. I don't know the bible at all, but it scared me a bit to read that week that the u.s. was calling China a fascist society and that it was working with Japan to discourage countries in the region and their own investers from trading with China.
Either way, bush scares the hell out of me.

U.S is scared shitless of China. Not of their military but of their economoy. Even they can't resist the low low prices and high-quality manufacturing. What more can you ask for? Anyway the whole world wants to be doing business with China. They are the fastest growing economy in the history of man-kind.

I'm actually surprised that stereotype of 'Made in China = poor quality' is still so predominent. By that logic, 90% or more of the products you buy is 'poor quality'. The reality is that the quality of products made in China has more to do with foreign companies cutting corners to save on manufacturing costs. For the right price, Chinese factories will match your specs perfectly. If you want quality, you have to pay for it. Most companies prefer not to.

Everything always coincides with a) Revelations and b) Nostradamus because both texts are written so vaguely that you can impose your own meaning to any verse. Kinda like how your horoscope is always accurate if you believe it will be. Both are okay stories, but so is Star Wars and the Matrix. But people who seek to believe will impose their own coincidences on anything.

wether its the company's fault or not, made in china = crap (for the most part), quality control is non-existant.

Again, for the right price, quality control in China can be second to none. If China = crap basically everything I own from my synths, computer hardware, clothing, furniture, etc. is crap because the majority of it was all made in China. People are slow to change, especially with stereotypes. It took 20 years before people stopped thinking "Made in Japan = crap" too.

Yea? Which factories and what do you import/export? I used to live in Shenzhen. My friend distributes a newsletter throughout Europe which is a directory of most of the major factories in China. I'm sure he'd love to know which factories you've had poor luck with so as not to recommend them to his clients.

omg, THANK-YOU. They are alwasy quoting the fucking bible.. no, no, they harldy even quote it. they just say in this (number:other-number) verse it says this and this, and then give their own translation, then if you actually reference the verse or even if they include it, you find a normal part of a story like "he picked up the glass and put it back down" and they will say it means god hates gay people. The worst part is that most people can`t even understand what it says cause its in such weird english, and to make matters even worse than that, its alreasy been translated from latin which was translated from hebrew. To think that you could even derive such meanignful things out of such exact words that were already TRANSLATED. Man I am so tired of hearing people quote the fuckign bible. People are so annoying. It's annoying that people can be retarded enough to listen. It's enough that they bother reading this stupid shit. It's just the freaking Roman law book. Would you trust a book published by George Bush?
