In essence, we live to identify (primarily ourselves) so one could simply say that we live to compare (which of course leads to competition, progression, and eventually evolution). |

| I guess the question we also have to answer is why it really matters that we are alive. I mean, since we are all alive are we well suited to say if life is important? Humans have always been self centered (and that is not a bad thing in itself). I agree that life might be something very rare in the universe but does that make life valuable in itself? I mean, I love life, I would choose to be alive any day of the week over being dead but that does not give life any intrinsic value...It is not because you find a unique piece of cheese that can sing an opera that does not give that thing a value just by the fact that it is unique
My opinion is that life like anything else in the universe is basically just a quantum fluctuation...kindda like a void/vacuum that for a fraction of an instant became an electron and a positron (+1eV and -1eV) but still have an electrical sum of 0
So we exist because we exist, there is no other great unknown reason why we exist.
Does that mean we can’t enjoy life just because there is no intrinsic reason why we exist? ....Hell no, I love being alive, it just mean that we have to find ourselves our own reason to live.
So if your reason to be alive is to eat as much chocolate as possible before you die, your reason to live is as good as the next guy who lives to become supreme overlord of the world or his neighbors that lives to create peace on Earth...
