Oh geez... McDonalds really is desperate for new marketing ideas...
McDonalds"

"Let's target the Asian's, they're the fastest growing industralised population, they'll probably take over everything eventually, so let's get them eating Big Macs instead of good healthy food..."

Euh... Yeah... I LOVE mcdonalds...

Actually I'm proud to say I haven't touched a McDonalds product in over a year now!!!

It's a old Business Marketing strategy. To create a link between the product and the target demographic group. In this case asian-american.
The message is if one use/buy/consume this product, then i am more of a or proud or whatever asia.

ever see sprite commercials? they target black demographic alot.

edit: The business corporations are trying to intergrated their product or service into a culture, because ethic culture tend to last a very long time and it isn't likely subject to change.

woah thats so weird

this causes ol' soysoy to go on a long rant...

asian-americans... are finally (or have been for a while and is it a good or a bad thing?) a worthwhile marketing demographic... years years of parents convincing their kids that all that matters is the all mighty dollar but that we only reap for half our efforts bla bla bla

with that ingrained in kids i know (including myself), i've eventually gotten disgusted by my peers but also am a hypocrite because i surround myself with other asian-american kids who hate on kids who try too hard to fit into this thing called "asian pride" which is find is synonymous with "asian-american inferiority complex" cause it's just an assimilation of their own culture and immitation of other more popular cultural habits

so although they're still mostly immitating other minority groups; asian-americans have been only slowly building their own 'image'

unfortunatly image comes before culture as an identity
it seems that alot of second generation asians only identify with whatevers 'cliche' from their roots
for instance adopting styles that are socially or fashionably acceptable and filling in the gaps with traces if their ancestry

p.s LOOK AT ME! I'M TRYING TO PLAY THIS OFF WITH "I'M IN DENIAL BUT I AIN'T ASHAMED WITH WHO I AM". true true.

so why is that? cause anything that comes from the far east and south-east is still generally seen as 'exotic' and will always just be a fad

while the older generations who have been pushing for prosperity, alot of the culture had to be assimilated

especially when the culture back 'home' seems to be so repressed (lack of communication and either too much godamn pride within the community but hella passive towards other cultures)

and here's the worst part:
all the countries who have been kissing ass for so long are enjoying huge economic growth and are either become oppressors or/and suffering national state of confusion because the changes in those countries are happening so fast that the people don't have time to evolve from their old social ills acumulated from generation and generation of stuborness and repression

its ironic how stuff like buddha and zen and stereo-typical wise asian man doesn't reflect "homeland" at all

since image and material is such of a big part of "asian (american pride)" i found it quite shallow as something to want to be a part of... it's just too easy of an identity to identify with... and it's this lack of seeking individuality that caused me to be such a hater

i think this applies to alot of other ethnic groups in my observations...

how often do you meet someone that says something that starts with "i dont date people of my culture..." or ?

i'll leave that up to someone else to rant about cause i'll already have a handfull in replies and possible thugs who are ready to bash my head when they see me romping down the street cause i be ripping and romping like that

excuse my incoherence
writting isn't my forte

there needs a huge spiritual awakening
not spiritual awakening fad

we're reminded of our struggles, strive to live beyond them
eventually it becomes our proccupation
somewhere along the way people get left in a void if they don't consider how they got to where they are

okay i'll shut up
goodnight

man I feel the same way about latin-america and I surround myself with other latins who dont pretend to be latin-americans....we just are...and then again we cant pretend to be the coffee grower or mambo king that we are expected to be because we didnt grow up there (though we might have been born there) and then again....if you go to big latin cities, people dont try to be what they are, they just are so why should we?

anyways, I dont wanna start my own rant here cause it's the Asian thread anyways hehehe.

This doesn't look real... at all.

If you walk into a kindergarten, you see kids makign fun of eachother cause they are fat or stupid, but when it comes to race, even though they can see the colour of eachothers skin, it seems they are not at all aware of that difference, well not that they aren't aware of the difference but they haven't even contemplated that it could matter. It would be really interesting to see what woudl happen if we put a one of these kindergarten classes on an island to grow up away from the influence of our current society and see if they would group up in mixed groups or racial groups in the end. No, I'm not suggesting we do that. Just wodnering.

we should also give the kindergarten kids a backpack containing 2 water bottle, a map, a compass, and a random weapon (crossbow, grenades, a frying pan, a taser, etc...) . We tell the kids they have 3 days to be the last survivor.
