Drugs And The Law

 Coolness: 91645 | Alot of people in this forum have used drugs at some point - which, in the eyes of the law, is an "offence" for which you could be put in jail. Its a rediculous scenario. Drugs are supposedly illegal to protect people from their harmful effects, but most drug users suffer much more from the legal consequences they will face (if caught) that they ever will from the substances that the law thinks we need "protection" from.
With that in mind, i'm curious to know how many people on this board have had legal problems as a result of drug use (or close calls), and what you think an appropriate legal solution is. |

although my dad was arrested on pot-related charges (deservingly so). had i still been working for him it could have been me. but it's really ridiculous. he was selling shitloads of pot and all he got a a small fine and a slap on the wrist. of course i was happy about that, but it just seems like the law is so lop-sided. |

 Coolness: 92220 | I never had anythign more then a little pot confiscated on a few occasions. I only knew one person ever who got a ticket for posession a few years back. A friend of mine got caught growing in his basement and he managed to get off with house arrest fro like 2 years I think? or 18 months or something. It was that or jail-time for the same period of time but he didn't wanna get ass-fucked. Then there was that one time they thought me and my friends were selling on the bus (we were buying but htey didn't know that) and the bus stopped fro like 20 mins while the bus driver called the cops and waited for tehm to show up. So the cops show up, with weed all over their breathe, they were fuckign toasted. So they tell us to get out of the bus, and then they said "your punishment is that now you have to walk". They didn't even take our names or try to confiscate anything. 20 mins for that. I love stoner cops. |

| Coolness: 92220 | well some lawyers will take money under-the-table styles to make your records disappear. Well at least I knew a couple of guys who would pay a lawyer 100$/drivers license point, and pouff all of a sudden they magically have all their points back like nothing ever happened. One of them really needed it though, worst driver EVER. |

I was walking home in Bangkok at about 3 in the morning, coming home from a club, when two Thai police came up to me and said they were going to search me. They went through all of my pockets, scrutinizing every single item. In my back pocket was a small amount of K wrapped up in a piece of paper. SOMEHOW they missed it...I was shitting my pants at the time. If they had found it, I probably would have had to pay a serious bribe, or check in to the Bangkok hilton. |

They frisked every one of us and even looked through our bags but by some miracle they missed the all the k in his back pocket. |

'Bad Boy Bad Boy...' But now its just lurking in the back of my mind and it really dosent click except some times. What about this, Would there be the same ammount of people tring drugs if the laws were diffrent, not just changed now but 30 years ago so we were used to it. |

If the laws were more respectable and just there would be less crime, less deviance. Deviance is just a symptom of a larger problem. I don't think that punishment in the form of fines, jail sentences, does much to cure the drug problem. It only displaces and treats it. People need help, not to be punished. Doing drugs is punishment to ourselves enough, however pleasurable. i don't want fear of having to pay out money or being expulsed from society to be the motivator of my conscience. Do you?! But hes telling me that i'm a criminal, but i didnt go to jail, he made me sigh a promise to appear(thank god), but now im thinking that if i'm found uilty, im gonna be branded a criminal, just because i smoke herb?? i dont get it. to me a criminal is someone who robs, rapes, a phedophile, a murderer, not someone who smokes mad pot and try to save some $$$ by buying a big quantity(in their eyes).
They should go do something better with their time and my tax money. |

You might not agree but the common denominator between the drug user, pedophile, murder, robber.. is that we are all products of the society/world we live in. So if the law wants to put labels on that which it helped to create... it's slightly bias. Why ought anyone be branded a criminal? Ought it not to be a crime to pollute the environment? Yes, it ought to be. glad you feel they should do something better with their time and your tax money,,... |
