Dont expect a more liberal pope. The church has lost most of its progressive elements over the last few decades. There is some talk that the U.S has been wheelin an dealin to get a really conservative pro-US pope up there. A fact that is not well known about Jean Paul 2 is that he has always refused audiences with George W Bush. ahe was rather disgusted with the post-9/11 implementation of the Wolfovitz doctrine. Jean Paul was out there in the Third World, doing great things, spreading great values. It is quite a loss.

he's the first pope in the history of the roman catholic church to have not only been proven, but admited it himself to being fallible.
his harsh stance against contraceptives has also helped proliferate the spread of HIV across Africa i could go on.
as much as he was a good man with good intentions, these aren't, in my mind, the characteristics of a good point.

just my 2 cents.
may he rest in peace though. he was a great person.

^^^ here here to that. theres comes a time where you can no longer be linded by faith and you must adapt to the times and do what is best for the people. when the bible was written HIV was 1800 some odd years away from beginning its deadly sweep through humanity and trojans werent on the market yet. but now with the advent of technology and with the current conditions of the world, suck up your religious pride and give in.
