When I first tried E, it was because I wanted to have a good time. During winter, I spend a lot of time with a good friend or two riding an old snowmobile. But, when the snow is away, there's nothing.... I don't have the money for summer toys and racing, and I need to be with people who have that special thing in their eyes. In raves, everyone talks to everyone, everybody is so friendly, it's magic, perfect. You want it to never end...

About acid, I could say that I use it to try to understand and deal with things of my past.

Also, I am studying chemistry, and I was fascinated by these chemicals. I wanted to try them, not only to see them in books.

first it was;
because i see the world with the cars and the money, and i see the hippies with the fun and the acid. i want my life to be magic, i want to live all i can, and so i chose my path.

&then,
curiosity.
what the drugs make me see, each time i learn, i see more and more and more...

i want to know how far human brain can get,
i want to know what is illusion and what is real,
i want to know what is truth and what is lies,
i want to see what other people see, i want to feel what other people feel.

i want to know why, and i don't like fear, so i take the drug and i have my answers.
&every time it is a learning experience, i take with me into life what i have learned from the trip.

we don't need drugs to have fun, but drugs can teach us that we can have much more fun than what we thought was possible. drugs taught me a lot about life. carelessness. just having fun. opening up. these things i knew, but drugs amplified them to a point we learn how to glow.

i feel more human than ever after i take acid.

drug use is simply another experience amongst many others.it becomes evil and life-consuming the instant it is no longer a singled out occasion, but rather becomes a habit or more precisly an addiction.you can drink forties and port once in awhile, but you can't expect the fact that not remembering the last time you could recall the way you got home could be a good thing.Same could be said of blow,it's more or less acceptable to do a Q or two on a night spent walling out downtown. But it starts getting sketchy when roughly75% of your income is spent on blow and you start doing it alone in the bathroom...5 or 6 times a week.for fuck's sake you could have an addiction to chocolate, hardcore porn or anything else for that matter...Mom's do it the best, simply put:too much is like not enough...anyways,i do drugs for many reasons, but mostly i can sum it up as being either cheap therapy or a means of exploring the reaches of my mind there is nothing evil or immoral about the whole thing,it's actually something worth toying with in a lifetime,sigh.....i have to go feed the kids in the closet again.

I read a couple posts but not all, so I dunno if this is on topic or not but here we go

addiction/alcoholism is a disease.
Some people have it, but most people dont. That's why some people can do coke once on a blue moon and others do it once and over time they endup living in a crack house. Same thing for alcohol. Some can drink half a glass of wine and others can bare the thought of it.

I, for example, have this disease, and I'm only living my life today because I'm off any kind of mind altering substance.

The one universal defining characteristic of every human culture across history has been that we have used substances to alter our psyche, except for the unfortunate Inuit, who were deprived of any psychotropic plants for obvious reasons. But even their shamans used auto-asphyxiation, starvation and frenetic dancing and singing to achieve states of transcendence. Why do men do drugs ? Why do we make art ? I think we wish to break from the narrow confines of our restricted and mortal selves and connect with something larger.

I am not saying taking drugs will make you see god, but they change you, they connect you with something outside yourself, or allow you to probe the depths of who you are - not your ego or who you front to be. Now doing drugs in a club or in the bathroom stall of your office to get through the day is not at all the same thing…but then again isn't it, don't we just want to be somewhere else, think something else, feel something else, be someone else. Or maybe we don’t want to thing feel or be anything at all.

Like its hard for me to talk about this because I am not addicted but definitely devoted to drugs, I can live without them…but I keep on coming back. Why ?

Why the hell not.

^nicely said... but then again would you really attribute "using substances to alter our psyche" in "one universal defining characteristic of every human culture across history"?

don't take me wrong, im not trying to negatively critique you, just seems rather general and maybe even "unjust" to the constitutions of culture.

i don't agree with this, i don't think drugs make you someone else, nor connect you to something outside yourself.
the trip is from you to you. it is all you, only it is parts of you that are normally hidden.
drugs are a great tool for discovery.

I use psychedelics to expand my consciousness and get in touch with the other dimensions of reality, I use uppers to stay up when fatigue would be inconvenient, I use downers to relax when I'm on my nerves. Basically drugs allow you to control your perception of reality , your mood, your energy level, and if you use them correctly they are simply a very convenient tool for experiencing life optimally.

What happens when you don't have access to drugs? Can you still acheive those states of mind naturally?

The idea is to use drugs as a tool, to learn that there are higher states of mind, higher things. And then, to put these learning in your life, in your everyday life, in what you are, and to work on yourself to get these states of mind by yourself.

I agree....but once you experience these new states of being, you should attempt to reach them naturally. If you always need to use the drugs, that's just a crutch......

You then became a slave to them in my opinion.
