No. I don't believe in religions. I wasn't raised in a religious household either. What about you? Are you religious?

yeah, been more and more religious as of the past few years. With all that's been going on in the world and with what I've been reading in the Book, it's hard for me not to be.

I can't, no matter how hard I might try, bring myself to believe that there is no God.

I didn't say I didn't believe in God. I'm just not religious. If you ask me, the only religion is no religion.

But about God, I hate using the term God. It's so misunderstood. But there is a higher power that exists and it comes before everyone.
I figure, until we all come to agree, "GOD" has no name.

there are definitly things out there that are immensly bigger than ourselves, but somehow i really doubt those things really care about us scampering humans.

I'm an agnostic with a good dose of gnosticism when it comes to practical applications. Figure that one out :)

well my view differs ...
I do believe in God and I do believe that
exists outside of time and space because He created the Universe as we know it, he made it all this way. The Universe has far too much Order for it to have sprung out of Chaos.Chaos remains as is until sentience or intelligence takes and organizes it into Order. Only God could have done that.

It is my belief and I dont say it to put you guys down... please understand this.

That's what I said--that it comes before everyone.

It's important to doubt. I don't know why you say that you doubt that the higher power cares about us humans. Look how much time we have had to fuck up --now that is benevolent.

After looking up the words, I can relate. I do the above too.

Yup. 'Cept I'm a heathen with a touch of Discordian influence. Hence - this whole predisposition to order is a ludicrous concept when placed in the context of my world view.

The word God is acceptable as a title.
But religion is a protacol of controlling people's minds in every denomination.
Sure you have a choce, but when you make the choice not approved by this mysical book and by what some self-righteous religious/person of faith deems right, then you subconciencly think that you're going to hell. Plus you're reminded all the time by people saying they're going to pray for you. A massive guilt trip able to influence major decisions in a person's life.

Since the bible is constantly being re-written, revised how do people know what the right meaning of an ambiguous word is?
It's how we have all these denominations, they're own ways of believeing. All suggesting that their class be the ones going to heaven. Even non-denominational is a class in itself.

People shouldn't rely on old books to define their morality. Come up with ideas of your own, your own definition of morality = freedom without having to donate money, gather in a special building to compare clothing, and still believe in the same one God that every religion struggles to please.
That's only Christianity. Don't get me started on Judeism or the Koran. It's all the same principles: control.

Dogmatism
Through some twist of fate, western society has come to regard dogmatic faith as a virtue. To hold an idea as true despite all evidence to the contrary is an abdication of reason. Convictions are the end of knowledge, not the beginning; they are the enemy of truth more than lies.

Apathy
There can be no logical argument against apathy. If you don't care about anything then that is pretty much the end of the story. If you don't care about leading a meaningless life, then surely apathy is the key.

Hypocrisy
Our beliefs are expressed through our behaviour, most explicitly through speech acts (e.g. "It's going to rain tomorrow."), but they also underlay every action we commit. When our actions reflect inconsistent beliefs we are guilty of hypocrisy. Although unavoidable to some extent (there is simply not enough time to consciously check each action and its consequences against every belief before executing it), every effort should be made to avoid major inconsistencies because they undermine our values, goals and plans. Often hypocrisy goes unnoticed because the connections between beliefs and actions are subtle. How many of us would denounce animal testing yet at the same time not think twice about taking medicine? That is why we must constantly examine and re-evaluate our behaviour and the beliefs it reflects.

OGRE: *cringe (j/k) I liked your post.

Yeah, I don't like that believe in the bible business. There are alot of things in the bible that I can relate to. It's all about human experience so go figure.

I think it's important to question everything with a holy curiosity as einstein said-- not just take something as true because a book tells you.

Read the book of life: experience. She'll teach ya.

Consistency and soundness within our actions and laws is necessary. For example, consider our government that criminalizes certain drugs and yet, mass produces pharmaceuticals. It's apparent that it is a matter of control and money, not for the goof of evrybody. That's private interest and thus, greed to put it simply.

Time and time again, science has proven the Qu'ran, Hadith, Torah and Bible wrong. Personally, I think that there is no one Creator of the universe and that, in due time - this will be proven. The important things about religion is the righteous values that emanated from accurate interpretations of the writings. Also believing in greater a purpos can stop someone from commiting suicide, it is also positive.
Personally, i dont believe in any of it, but i respect people who do.
The bible has as much value to me as Harry Potter, or less.

I used to think so too, but after studying Islam and Middle East politics and history, i dont think so anymore. It is not the religious which creates the war, but the personal interpretations of the wagers.
You have countless different interpretations of the Qu'ran. Osama Bin laden surely doesent have the same as Ayatollah Sistani or the rest or as the Wahhabi Clerics of Saudi Arabia. More often than not, ambitious men will use religion as a tool to mobilize support.

Religion does not give birth to wars, humans do that on their own, carrying so called righteous justification by human edict. Such happenings are not the fault of a belief in a higher being but the ones who bestow these false and contrived ecclesiastical doctrines to the masses.

The idea of religion is a perfect one, just like how the ideology of any politic party makes sense… till you add human judgment and emotions to the equation.

Every circumstance of ecclesiastical order and discipline was an abomination.

Follow the Gospel of Jesus… the house of God is within you, not within brick and gold.

You cannot blame a thought about being with no phsycical contact for causing murder, sorrow and lack of

Exactly! As long as the people have their own point of view on the subject and don't try to convince people, brainwash kids at 6 years old and bring them to the church by force, I'm ok with that, I don't care. I do get mad though when they try to convince me with bla bla bla...
