Yeah I agree... This prolly affects us more than our elections here.

anyone own a creditcard? hey, guess what country those companies are based in...? i'm somewhat surprised that no one cares about this.. this is totally false. the credit card is issued bya bank, not by a "company", and the patriot act does nto apply to canadian banks. stop fear mongering. yeah, that MBNA card i've got was totally not issued from an american address... wanna see my statement's return address? did you even read my post? it's issued by a bank. mbna is a financial organization IN AMERICA. so of course if you applied for a credit card from an AMERICAN COMPANY or an AMERICAN BANK then you are subject to that country's privacy laws! Why are you even posting this? Do you realise how dumb this makes you look? Holy shit. Do you want to see the statement return address on one of my several CANADIAN credit cards? Oh wait, what would that prove? ABSOLUTELY NOTHING! |

Guys - did anyone actually read the patriot act document? it doesn't have anything to do with giving up individual account information. it has to do with a foreign (canadian) bank doing business with or holding accounts in an american bank. It requires that bank to undergo ownership and other certification. Repeat: I don't see anything here that talks about disclosing any CUSTOMER information. It's all BANK information. Probably to make sure that private banks aren't funding scary evil terrorism through american accounts.
