and just so you know small raves, the underground ones aren't dead.. otherwise we wouldn't have in da jungle, or any renegade legion parties..

also, 'underground parties' are basically just house parties with friends, that aren't necessarily at someone's house..
if you think that scene is dead, then it just means that you're not as tight with your friends as you used to be..

I still think that many people still need rescuing from the main stream and their should be a week day rave for all those people that have to work every Sunday.

if you want a weekday rave and no ones doingit, then by all means, become a promoter and do it..

ok time for me to add my 2 cents (again)...

first of all I'm not an 'elitist raver' at all, or jaded, or anything like that, and I agree with eliot that perspective is cruicial, well heres mine: if I go to rave and simply enjoy the night, have a fun time, or however u like to put it, then that's great. at the same time though I beleive a rave can be more, that it has the capacity to affect its participants deeply on an emotional level, maybe even perhaps a spiritual one. It's not about politics, its about thinking of raves in higher as terms as having the capacity to affect us more than a form of entertainment. Personally I don't think the number of size of parties is the most important factor, I'd rather have one great event a month than a decent one every weekend, but that's just me...

all in all I beleive the scene hasn't died at all...poeple just think that it has because there are allot of people that just don't party anymore because it isn't as cool as it used to be...personally i'm going to party for as long as I can without looking loke a 40 year old balding raver!

what kind of thread is this? who cares what the fuck raves are about????
I woke up this morning and said: "I want to go to a rave." and I did. End of Story! who cares what they're about. i want to go to one so i do. Done and done.
if you dont like raves anymore, dont go.. simple as that... if you wanna waste time knowing how the sound is, the size of the place, all the intimate details of the area, go ahead... but a rave is a rave is a rave...

No way rave are very different from one another from Goa to Speedcore your not getting in to the same thing, and yes rave have changed a lot my dad tells me about raves that he when to back his day he’s 40 and they were not the same at all. I think what’s most important is how a party is promoted. A party promoted on Crescent street is not the type of thing I want to go to. And why not talk about what can be done to change parties what bad could come of it as for your don’t give a shit attitude well maybe that’s not helping the seen seeing as it appears you’ll support anybody regardless

if the music is good, i don't care where the hell it is.

having the mentality that it's no good given it's location, cause it's not cool for underground ravers to go to comercial raves.. then the only thing that makes me think, is that you're not really in the scene for the music then. which is s shame.

if raves were just about music, then why not just buy some CD's and listen at home? and the purpose of this thread is not to bitch about how the scene is dead or how much raves suck nowadays, matter of fact I have not been to a rave that I did not enjoy. the purpose of this thread is to discuss what raves can be in their ideal state, and strive to achieve this however possible

I rave for the love of the music, the diffrent people you can meet, and dancing hard. when you do go, you will always meet someone you know or alot of people you know without even planning it. I'm learning to spin on vinals because you can play with the music alot diffrently and more accurateally. =)

maybe u just refuse to accept the fact early raves were a much more profound experience than most of what exists today. i'm not knocking the fact that u have a good time at commercialised raves today, cause hell I do too in many cases..I'm just trying to spread awareness of a concept that u seem to be either ignoring or in denial of. and if ur gonna label me a hippie now whatever, if u actually knew me you'd know thats the furthest from the truth, but to discredit what someone has to say by just labelling them a hippie is just plain closed minded

original raver's outfit from the 1920's
The pants this guy's wearing were all the rage in the biginning of the jazz age. The style of pants were called "oxford bags", usually accomidated for 45 inches of wideness at the bottom of the pant leg!!!
(ps thanks to Mel for this info)
