Looking into buying a basic turntable to start practicing and doing my homework for my upcoming SAT "exams"... props uk514 for the opportunity of doing so with them this june 13th.

Anyhow, what should I be looking for in a basic turntable, normal pricing for such a turntable? Any information you may give will be greatly appreciated. Also, I don't know any DJ slangs... so keep it... english. ;) Thanks ya'll.

Everyone is going to tell you to get at the very least technics 1200s. I think that's a pretty good way to go. If you want to go further than just mixing, the Vestax PDX-2000 might be a good choice.

Ok... newbish as I am: I went to [ futureshop.ca ] and found this.

Is it crap? How much does the technics 1200 and the Vestax PDX-2000 cost? What I wanna know is... what the hell should I avoid and try to get since these things seem to have so many different gadgets and options.

It's crap. Hardcore. :b

You'll need a TT that's Direct Drive, meaning that a motor moves the platter directly, instead of Belt Drive, where the motor is seperate and a belt turns the platter.

You'll also need a pitch controll on it, or you can't slow down or speed up the records to beatmatch.

Go check out the store.

Whatever you do, spend money on something QUALITY for your turntables. I've got the Stanton Str8-30s and, well, they're good to practice on, but they have a totaly diffrent feel from other higher-quality tables. If your serious about it, you really should get at the very least Tech 1200s. The PDX-2000 is a good alternative that I *think* is cheaper. It's got all sorts of extra bells and whistles, but that's not what matters. What matters is that the platter has a lot of torque behind it, which helps a LOT when your cueing or scratching, and the tone-arm on it is rock-solid, which is really usefull in any situation.

matt, you have no idea how the bass line bumps thru my vains so easily :) imma call moog now and ask if they have any "per month" payments... cause my father just went to the country place before I had the chance to beg some money. damn it!

k, well I called and they said they wanted 100$ a turntable for a deposit... right now I only have enough money to put down enough money for one deposit... imma call the hoes that owe me money. LOL

GOD DAMN I WILL! Just called a guy that owes me 60$... I'll just have to steal like 20$ out of my mother's wallet and run away and pay two deposits for...

sorry... got interrupted by my mother saying that she's annoyed by the "banging" sound... it's hard to explain to her what hardcore is. LOL

anyhow... ya tomorow I'm dragging my friend that owes me money to moog's and I'll be leaving my two deposits for two used technics 1200 for 500$ each! yayyyyyy
