that's simply not true.

if you're marketing your site towards average joe surfer, you'll see a pretty even split down the middle for 800x600 and 1024x768

i've seen about 45% each over my sites (and we're talking several million hits over the last 18 months) and most webmasters i've spoken to have numbers in that range.

so i should probably make 2 sites, one for 800 600 and one for 1024 768.

whatever, if i just design for 800 600 my images won't be cut off or anything? cause basically i don't want to have to scroll left or down in order to see the whole thing, that totally defeats the purpose of the site. should i just make my images smaller?

sharon: barely anyone uses 800.600 anymore, at alll. just make it 1024.768 compatible - i think thats yr best bet.

hell, kira's the webdesign genius, ask her :)

if you design it for 800 x 600, it should still look fine at 1024 x 768, but it might look mad small at very high resolutions (if we are talking about a full graphical style site)

is your site marketed to the average surfer? or a younger, more tech savy crowd?

i've seen surfer stats from [ thehun.net ] (which has approx. 1.5-2 million visitors a day) and i've seen the stats for [ sleazydream.com ] (which gets 750K-1 million a day) and both are still evenly split between 800x600 and 1024x768.

but it's all moot if you're not marketing your site towards joe surfer but instead towards a tech savvy crowd.

cherryonionkiss, one possible solution is to resize the pics as they display in your right frame (when a thumbnail is clicked) and then allow the surfer to click on the larger to pic to see the actual full sized picture in a new window)
