So I have the install discs, but the problem is bigger than anything I expected.
I tried to reboot it with Mikael in single user mode, nothing happened.

And I think I need Disc Warrior, I don't think it was the fonts either, btw.
I think it's a common crash in old PPC's.

can you mount the disk when you boot off the install disk? boot off the disk and open disk utility and check if you can mount it properly.
I'm feeling gangsta right now..

Well it's looking like we need disc warrior, maybe I can come pick it up off you tomorrow
and we can give it another try...:( this girl down here got it to work again when she used it...

"It was a kernel panic. And from what i understood it takes something like disk warrior to get it back to running shape...My hard drive is probably ok..but not unless i do a clean install.. i will continue to have some problems.
One of the problems is i can do no drop and [ drag..ca ] move files from place to another easily/

thanks for all the help.."

if target disk mode isn't working, then the drive is probably messed up.

I experienced Firefox crashes right before it happened..so it's looking like a system software crash, not hardware. Either way, hopefully either the mac store will fix it like they did for the lady up there ^^ or maybe Mikael will help a bro out again ;)

Yes. Those awesome geniuses which are charged just about 60$/h to repair your computer. Not to mention, and unless that changed, even attempting to open your Mac case voids the warranty. So if you buy a better sound card, that genius will have to install it for you...and should take him an hour or two.

geeze , just boot with freebsd or openbsd , or any live version of linux that can mount bsd
file system, you will be able to hook the drive in a tower boot off the cd, and hopefully dump to
an other driver you hooked up there before too.

> you need recovery , i has converters, suff that isnt on the market too...

> im the kind of genius that when ill open it, i will get the data.

if you dont want to save me a day out of my life and do local ide/scsi transfers,

i can always setup an ftp server and retreive the data without touching anything but
the keyboard and cd drive,

the only time i loose data, is when there is physical damage beyond the disk management utilities and something linked to the pio.

to sum it up: the computer can be in flames , and as long as the drive didnt cought fire, or
the pio chip melted, i can retrieve the binary data.

NO QUESTION ABOUT IT. and i charge 80 $

thats how assertive i can get your data.

ffs readers are available for windows, being for bsd (openbsd or freebsd different), solaris, or mac.
the pkg port tree of openbsd has a nice make_compat mac files and freebsd is almost native.

shit loggin on wikipedia scoring a live bsd/linux version for mac isnt that hard, they have the
mount tools in there.

so scotty i dont care if its different, i get your point, but i have more than a forensic tool to do
the job. and a live custom kernel/version of bsd is in there.

Just got back from the mac store, my logic board may be fucked. They told me to try changing the ram, the HD is fine. If it's the logic board I'm throwing this piece of shit out. Fuck Mac

laptop comparable to p4 , will most of the time : either processor burn , or , ram burn.

you get blank screen lots ? cant install ? try testing the computer with only one ram, if u have two, then test the other, if problem persist. chances are some noise capacitors next to the processor
burned, and leaked, or the processor is "map" burned.

like he said , at least the data is still on your disk for you to recover, but having no computer
doesnt help. id love to look at it.

so far , i seen 2 compaq computer die like that, and christ i made computer that had serious cofee spills and worked, this is a quality / design flaw.

i have 2 toshiba that does this too, but it seems its total processor burn, not linked to motherboard or ram...

computers sucks when u dont have a pile of them.

Dude, what are you talking abut? You're going on and on and no one here cares what you have to say. No OS is invisible, but OSX is more stable and secure than Vista, for fucks sake, it's FreeBSD. Viruses? There's no such thing as a mac virus. Go find me one and I'll be impressed. (trojans are not classified viruses since you have to install them yourself).
