I voted Liberal, and my riding is now a liberal one (Westmount-Ville Marie) so I'm happy.
All I know (and you kids might be too young to remember this) is that when the PC was in power, by the late 80s/early 90s we were in a shitload of debt, quebec was brokes-ass and 1% away from seperation, and Bush was elected President. Now, 11 years later, we've had 2 years of Federal surplus, Quebec is starting to surpass Romania as a capitalist power and getting better every day. Sure, a Bush is still in power, but we stand alone as the only nation with a passport without restriction and given the world climate right now, I think that speaks pretty highly of our country.
The sponsorship scandal, sorry to say, is pretty bullshit. It's less a reflection of a corrupt political party, and more a reflection of a boring political system where not a hell of a lot goes on, an election is up-coming, and the media would appreciate something a little more controversial cuz Canadian Idol just ain't hackin it. The Gov'ts been handing out grants to it's preferred clients since the dawn of time (why do you think Toronto grew by close to 250% since 1980 while MTL has only grown by a little over 50% and only since 1995?). It's all politics.
What's cool about the Minority government is that Adriane Clarkson will get dusted off and taken off her decorative podium and get to do some real decision making, and she is a huge supporter of the arts, which means she won't try to destroy all the federal artistic initiatives. And Montreal is all about its arts!

minority government...joyous me.

here is a little piece of info on minority governments in Canada;

MINORITY REPORT

Here's how long past minority governments have lasted:

- 1926: Arthur Meighen, Conservatives: Two months and 26 days.

- 1957-58: John Diefenbaker, PC Party: Five months, 24 days.

- 1979: Joe Clark, PCs: Six months, three days.

- 1962-63: John Diefenbaker, PCs: Six months, 19 days.

- 1925-26: Mackenzie King, Liberals: Six months, 25 days.

- 1972-74: Pierre Trudeau, Liberals: One year, five months, 19 days.

- 1963-65: Lester Pearson, Liberals: Two years, four month.

- 1965-68: Lester Pearson, Liberals: Two years, four months, 14 days.

- 1921-25: MacKenzie King, Liberal: Three years, seven months and 21 days.

When this government fails a new election will be forced...costing canadians 250 millions for a re-election. AWESOME!

I'm def not getting long-term relationship vibes from Martin. Liberals and NDP should join up using the NDP's heart with the Liberals brains and adopt that independant cancer guy who won in BC as their mascot. Instant majority and a PR machine. Plus we all want to see Jack Layton and his Major-Dad-like good looks.
Remember Major Dad? Gunny really was an iron-clad bitch.
