The Hardsteppers are proud to present Medium is the Message Vol 4, a celebration of vinyl culture in its purest form. Dub plates, record bags, sound systems, and the ritual of selectors shaping a room in real time are at the core. With deep roots in jungle and drum and bass, the event began as a space to honour the physical format and the communities built around record stores, late night digging, and hand to hand musical exchange.
Now in its fourth year, the festival has hosted respected artists and culture bearers including Krinjah, Kid Koala, and founder Sase One, while continuing to focus on vinyl first performances and dub plate traditions. For this edition, we’re splitting the event into two separate showcases, starting with a free event from 2pm to 8pm at La Récré 180g Café and Ma Mère en Feu. We’re presenting our best line up yet with a live performance by Beaver Sheppard and dj sets by Regimental, Exploit, Dez1 from Quebec City, Icky Magdala and the legendary Ghost Beard AKA DJ Wig, a dream booking for us.
Grab a drink at la Récré and check out our merch and the special vinyl art we’ll have featured for our silent auction. Dig through piles of records at 180g while enjoying the perfect oat milk latte. Grab a bite from Ma Mère en Feu and chill on the patio setup out front. Sound will be piped from the dj booth into all spaces so you can keep enjoying the tunes across the whole block. All proceeds from the auction and merch sales will be donated to GRIP, a harm reduction organization that has been doing incredible work for over a decade.
