A Musical Journey With Les Petits Violons — 61st Anniversary Concert [ Static Link : iCal ]
City:Canada, Quebec, Montreal
Time:Sun May 3, 2026 @ 4:00pm
Description: A Musical Journey with Les Petits Violons 61st Anniversary Concert — May 3, 2026 | Salle Pierre-Mercure, Centre Pierre-Péladeau
Les Petits Violons invite the public to its 61st anniversary end-of-year concert on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at 4 p.m., at Salle Pierre-Mercure of the Centre Pierre-Péladeau, under the artistic direction of Marie-Claire Cousineau, with Julie Daoust presenting the program.
This event brings together all the school’s musicians, many of whom will take the stage for the very first time, alongside the Petits Violons orchestra and the Ensemble Jean Cousineau, composed of professional musicians active in renowned ensembles.
Conceived as a triptych, the program travels across three musical landscapes — Spain, America, and Quebec — preceded by the Prelude from the Partita in E major, BWV 1006 by Johann Sebastian Bach, which sets the journey in motion.
Carried by a continuous, lively and luminous line, the music of the Prelude unfolds in an unbroken flow where multiple voices overlap, like resonances within a single breath. Certain passages evoke distant bells answering one another — a call, a departure that immediately establishes movement.
Spain then comes into view with the Romanza Andaluza by Pablo de Sarasate, a broad and warm melody with vibrant colors, where virtuosity becomes song.
With Antonín Dvořák, the perspective shifts toward the New World. The “American” Quartet unfolds in an open clarity. Its themes seem to emerge from afar, carried as much by the horizon as by an inner memory — a writing of supple contrasts, simple yet deeply resonant.
Then, a return to Quebec with works by Jean Cousineau, founder of Les Petits Violons, who also created several string orchestrations, including those of Sarasate and Bach. His compositions, closely tied to the life of the orchestra, draw from a personal language: rooted in tradition — like the gatherings of the past — and infused with expressive melodies. With Terroirs, he evokes vast landscapes and changing seasons through a rich and evocative sonic texture, carried by a precise, gentle, and joyful interpretation. Étude No. 5 by Charles Dancla, along with Excursions, De la France au Québec, Trois Pays, and Suite Queue leu leu, extend this writing into shorter, more dynamic forms, accompanying the musicians throughout their development, never separating discipline from the pleasure of playing.
The orchestra becomes a living space where transmission — at the heart of Les Petits Violons — unfolds naturally and reaches the audience.
