QLD DRUG CENTRE CALLS FOR CRACKDOWN ON RAVE PARTIES

The Alcohol and Drug Foundation of Queensland says something has to be done
about the availability of amphetamines and other illegal drugs at rave
dance parties in Queensland.

Chief executive officer Bob Aldred says he is sick of hearing about young
people being hospitalised after these parties.

Six people were admitted to the Royal Brisbane Hospital, and one is in
intensive care, after a rave party at the RNA showgrounds on Sunday night.

Mr Aldred says it appears anyone can get these drugs at dance parties and
it has to stop.

"Every rave party by law is supposed to have a permit and every rave party
manager has a responsibility to their customers, to the young people," he said.

"There is a duty of care here. We just can't have weekends like we have
just had this time where we are seeing so many calls out for emergency, we
are seeing a young girl in an intensive care unit

"This is going to keep on getting worse unless something is done about it."
