THANKS, BUD, FOR B.C.'S SHAME

Re: "A few reasons to celebrate B.C. Day," the Now, Aug. 2.

B.C. is great, isn't it? We have mountains in our backyards, festivals to
take part in and weather to make you wonder. I am so proud to say that I am
a resident of B.C. Even more proud was I when I discovered that destroying
your brain cells and lungs with an abundant and tolerated supply of "bud"
is now considered a celebration.

Wow, I am so blessed to live in a province that says, "Hey, it's OK to
smoke pot. It's everywhere and everyone is doing it. Why repress it?
Instead, let us publicize it and allow it to become more widespread.

If all your friends decide jumping off a bridge is a fun thing to do and
easily done, would that suddenly become the popular thing to do? Would it
be commemorated and idealized in the newspaper?

A far-off comparison? Perhaps, but the idea is still the same. We have
worked too hard to show the effects of smoking marijuana only to have it
now highlighted as one of B.C.'s largest cash crops.

Thank you for contributing to an embarrassing truth, instead of trying to
demolish it.
