DUMPSTER DIVE YIELDS PORTABLE METH LAB

GENEVA-ON-THE-LAKE - An unidentified village resident found a
backpack filled with items used in the illegal manufacture of the
drug methamphetamine Sunday morning, police reports show.

The man was searching through the Dumpster behind Lakeview Resorts,
located at 5287 Lake Road across the street from The Cove nightclub,
when he found a backpack containing precursor materials: chemicals,
funnels, meth oil extract and other items used to make
methamphetamine, police reports show.

"It was a backpack full of stuff, which can be just as dangerous as a
large-scale meth lab. We treat them all with the same caution,"
village Police Chief Tim Bruckman said.

Geneva Police Officer Mike Palinkas joined up with the
Geneva-on-the-Lake Police Department to identify the items as being
meth-producing chemicals. The scene was processed by a professional
cleanup crew, and evidence was collected, Bruckman said.

Bruckman said the case is still under investigation and two suspects
are being questioned.

"This case is definitely still under investigation. I can't say
enough about the quick thinking of the resident who found the
backpack. The public can be a real help in cracking down on meth labs
in the community," Bruckman said.

Police have two suspects in tiny meth lab.
