KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Christmas treeshaped air fresheners even more than
a dozen of them in a single car were no match for 300 pounds of marijuana.
Jamaal Lou Wallace found out while traveling along Interstate 40 with the
marijuana in the trunk, police say, when the artificial evergreen scent
failed to mask his fragrant cargo at a surprise checkpoint Thursday night.
After being stopped, Wallace had a ``deercaughtintheheadlights look in
his eyes,'' narcotics officer Dennis Worley said Friday.
``I knew why when he opened the car window,'' Worley said. ``The odor would
nearly knock you down. There were 15 to 20 (air fresheners). So you can
imagine how it smelled. The pot was in the trunk, but he had air fresheners
all over the car.''
Wallace, 27, of Virginia Beach, Va., was charged with possession of marijuana
with intent to distribute.
