CHINESE FACE GRAVE SMOKING DANGER
Smokingrelated illnesses could kill 150 million current smokers in
China,where more people smoke cigarettes than in any other country in the
world, according to studies published Tuesday.
Smokers in China have a death rate nearly 2.5 times higher than
nonsmokers,according to the University of Hong Kong'sTai Hing Lam and
colleagues who published their findings in this week's Journal of the
American Medical Association.
They said China,with an estimated 500,000 smokingrelated deaths each
year,was in the early stages of an epidemic of tobaccorelated diseases.
