CITY PLANS TO CUT POLICE COSTS BY DECRIMINALIZING MARIJUANA

RED DEER - A proposal to cut police costs in Red Deer by decriminalizing
possession of small amounts of marijuana will not get past Ottawa, says
federal Crown prosecutor John Lee. Steve Cross, chairman of central Alberta
city's policing committee, says it costs $2,000 to $3,000 to convict
someone in court for possession of marijuana.
