TEEN EXPECTED TO END CASE AGAINST SCHOOL

Police Dog Detected Scent Of Marijuana On Jacket Of 15-Year-Old Student

Chris Laurin's battle against the school that suspended him because a
dog detected the scent of marijuana on his jacket could be over today.

His lawyer, Lawrence Greenspon, is expected to make an announcement
today about the Ottawa-Carleton Catholic School Board's reaction to
Chris's claim that he was unfairly punished.

Chris, 15, was suspended last Tuesday after an impromptu search for
drugs and weapons at St. Matthew high school in Orl=C8ans.

A police dog indicated that Chris's jacket smelled of drugs, and his
bag and locker were searched.

Although police didn't find any drugs, and neither Chris nor his
vice-principal could smell marijuana on his jacket, Chris was
suspended for two days.

Michel Laurin, the teen's father, met with the principal and
vice-principal of the school last Thursday, the day Chris returned to
school.

"The meeting went well," said Mr. Laurin last week.

Mr. Greenspon, who called the suspension "zero tolerance gone
insane," is expected to discuss the results of that meeting today.
