POT-GROWING CLEANUP COSTS HIT LANDLORD

SURREY - A landlord whose house was used as a marijuana growing
operation wants a break from the city.

The operation was discovered Nov. 9, 2005 when a BC Hydro transformer
outside the house caught fire.

In a Jan. 18 letter to council, Masood Anwar said he's an unemployed
student and can't afford the cleanup tab. He told council Monday that
he'd inspected the Guildford home twice.

Mayor Dianne Watts later said council will await a staff report before
making a decision. "There were close to 500 plants in there and a
fire," she noted.
