WHITE TAKES LEAD IN DRUG WAR

Randy White will be taking the lead in the House of Commons to fight
illegal drugs as the vice-chairman of a special committee named last week
to study the non-medical use of drugs in Canada.

The 13-member all-party committee be working on this issue for the next 18
months and will travel across Canada in the fall, with additional meetings
in the U.S. and Europe.

"We need to cover all aspects of this issue, from health implications to
problems in the justice system, such as sentences that are too light and
increasing law enforcement," said White, the (Canadian Alliance) MP for
Langley-Abbotsford.

"This isn't a problem that doesn't begin or end at Canada's doorstep. We
need to see how other governments have been successful in tackling this
issue head on, and what the end result has been."

Witness lists will be compiled this summer and White invited potential
witness to contact his office at 856-2037.

"It's time to examine the issues on the streets, not with the bureaucrats
in their high towers."
