They traditionally use peanut paste (or plain crushed peanuts) for sauces and such. Most probably locals still use it, but once here they switch for peanut butter since it's cheap and easier to find than peanut paste.

Indeed Pat! Especially in thai and indonesian cuisines, they have a lot of peanut butter sauces and such. Yummy. :)
